Attributes really Whacked

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 1:49 pm

I have discovered that my attributes are really screwed up and I don't know what the cause is. Nothing is showing as an active effect and the attributes that are lower than they should be aren't listed as being drained (there's nothing in red, they're just listed as if they should be that way, but I know better). The really strange thing is that not all of my attributes are drained, some have been increased!! I have been wearing Mankor Cameron's robe, but I think this started before that. Unfortunately I suspect Kragenir's Death Quest (due to some other posts I've seen), but I'm not sure so I thought I'd ask to see if anybody has any ideas.

Here are my attributes. I'll only list the ones that have a problem. The first column is what they should be, the second column is what they are:
int 100 99end 95 97per 83 85luc 74 72

Now I have run into a couple of will-o-wisps, but when I was fighting them, I didn't get any messages about attributes being damaged. Also, as I said, the menu doesn't show any damaged attributes. Also you'll notice that not everything is damaged - it's almost as if things just got moved around!

Here's my load order:

MyTweaks just adjusts the volume of weather sounds like thunder and rain. I tried fixing the attributes with the UOP, but it doesn't think anything is wrong. I guess I'll have to fix them via console. Has anybody ever seen anything like this?

Have you tried praying at an altar or quaffing Cure Disease or Restore potions?

I've tried restore spells - they didn't help. One thing I just discovered: KDQ is responsible for the luck decrease. I was just going through my quest journal and found an entry that took 2 off my luck for not helping an NPC. I didn't see anything on-screen when this occured. I think I might send a note to Povuholo that he should mention this in the readme  Maybe the rest of the changes are the same, but there were no journal entries for them...

Edit: btw PetrusO, I must say I love your avatar. I have two cats and I've seen that look before :)

He he, that's the look he gives inferior beings who don't show proper respect by bringing offerings in the form of Whiskas or fresh fish.

Just a random thought. If this occurred recently could you reload and retrace your actions with Conscribe installed and work out from the log who the culprit is? No idea if this is feasible or even possible.

This can be fixed by UOP's attribute fixer in the Options Menu.

BTW, you have to make sure you are not wearing anything (magical) that enhances your attributes. Also, best to sleep and eat/drink if you are using one of those hunger/thirst/sleep mods, and pray at an altar to get rid of any other effects. Once the effects have subsided, use UOP's fix, and it should work to fix your attributes...

Funny thing is I have to do this that I do this many times in my game (don't know what causes these attributes to go up/down), and after the UOP fix, my attributes are limited to 100. I have Elys Uncapper, and I thought attributes should go higher than 100. But my personality/intelligence/strength etc. is restored to 100 after using the UOP fix... is this a problem, or am I not understanding what Elys Uncapper does?

Unfortunately it wasn't that recently :) The first thing I noticed was my personality had increased by 2. At the time I thought I must have mis-counted or gotten a reward that had increased it. Later after fighting a will-o-wisp, I noticed my intelligence and luck had decreased, but there were NO active effects. Nothing on the attributes page and nothing in the active effects list. I tried a restoration spell and that didn't fix it. I also tried the attribute and stat fix utitlity from the UOP and that reported that nothing was wrong.

I really think now that this is a result of rewards and punishments for doing or not doing quests in Kragenir's Death Quest. I've never had this happen before and this is the first time I'm running that mod. I did find a journal entry for the luck penalty, so I'm inclined to think that the others are similar but not recorded. I think I'll ask Povuholo about it and ask him to pop up a message when this happens. I see so many posts about people having damaged stats or attributes that I thought I would ask first. Judging by the responses, I think it must be KDQ.

Edit: Anithinks, I didn't see your reply :ninja: But I think I covered it in my response above. As I said, tried UOP, no dice. I had removed all magical gear when trying to fix it. I'm not using any hunger/thirst/sleep mods. I don't pray at altars, but I have restoration spells for all my attributes and they didn't help. As I said, not all my attributes were drained, some were enhanced. I'm also running Elys Uncapper, but I've only just started to hit 100, so I'm hoping I'll be able to go over that. Otherwise I may have to restore my game to the point before I tried the UOP fix :( I would imagine that the UOP is just "fixing" your attributes, so they get reset to 100 if they are over that. I'm not sure what Elys really does :) I would hope that after running the UOP fix, you are still free to increase your attributes over 100 again...

For what it may be worth, the relevant code blocks for attribute fixes look like this:
set vsMagnitude to player.getbaseactorvalue Strength - player.getav Strength if (vsMagnitude != 0) set endMessage to 1 player.modav Strength vsMagnitude Message "Strength adjusted by %.0f", vsMagnitude, 30 endif

So I'd imagine the values that get modified won't exceed what the default game allows when this script gets run, but other mods that do break the cap will be able to do so later.

Clarification: modav changes the attribute by a specified amount. So if your strength was 80 and you do player.modav Strength 10, your new strength will be 90, correct? You can also use setav if you know what your strength should be. So I used player.setav Intelligence 100, for example. Anithinks, it looks like you're using KDQ as well, so you may find that to be the cause of some of your problems too. I've posted the question to Povuholo and we'll see what he says. You might trying using setav to restore your attributes to over 100 after running the UOP utility.

Yes, and what the code is doing in each case is getting the base value, then subtracting the current (possibly modified) value from that. If vsMagnitude comes up anything other than 0, that value is added to the attribute. Since vsMagnitude can be either positive or negative, the modav command is being used properly in the statfix script.

If you're getting no messages saying something was adjusted, then the game thinks your base value and your actual value match. You should also be certain nothing is still listed on your effects list, because http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/GetBaseActorValue doesn't report accurately when those are there.

*** SOLVED ***

All of my attribute changes were from quests in Kragenir's Death Quest. Just a head's up: KDQ has a LOT of attribute changes in it. I loaded it up in the CS and there are 10 quests that alter attributes, with some of them having multiple attribute changes. Not all of them are positive! It does depend on how you complete the quests.

KDQ uses ModPCAttribute, so the changes are permanent and not detected by the UOP (because the base value has now been altered, so there's nothing for it to do).

I might release a 'no stat changes' patch at some point, for those who don't like their stats getting messed with a bit.
