Why isn't there a female supermutie?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:36 pm

I wonder why a female supermutie wasn't thought of?

I meant somehow they have to re-produce dont they? i know they were created in Vault 87 but surely they had experimented on women too?

Just think it would of been interesting to see a female. Not many mind, and maybe where mutie camps are setup. I also think they should be a little more aggressive in combat but about the same kill difficulty as a Brute.

Does anyone agree?

Have you played through the entire game?

Supermutants are asixual they have no gender and I won't spoil it since you obviously don't know but they 'reproduce' so to speak in a way different from six.

If you want to know, post this in the spoilers area, or look up the fallout wiki.

supermuntants are setrile, a big point that is made in the first game.

They reproduce in a very different way, and in fact the first mutant army was not even made in vault 87.

Fawkes was a woman before she was mutated according to the terminal in that vault. Now shes an "it".Most people already knew about the gender cancelation from the earlier games as stated but like you I scratched my head for a while after finding out.

Bethesda has CONFIRMED Fawkes was a male. If you listen to Fawkes after reading the terminal, he tells you that he was not the original occupant of his cell. In response to OP, Supermuties are asixual. They are not born, they are created.

Oh i either missed that or forgot it...

On topic:Doesnt A-sixual mean the creature does reproduce...just by fertilising its own eggs or whatever (learned from godzilla lol )

So supermutants are created I accept that...My question is how do they keep there numbers strong? Can they lay eggs or something :)

I think Asixual means genderles.
Earthworms are asixual but it requires two to tango still, they can't reproduce on their own but do have both male and female organs.

SMs are not asixual, they do not reproduce at all, they capture people and transform them into more supermutants this is not reproduction, so asixual no, they have no gender and are sterile.
They keep their numbers strong by harvesting people, they catch them then mutate them with FEV, uncle leo and fawkes are proof of this and found in fallout 3.

The last image I need in my mind is muties dancing the tango so to speak.I suppose them laying eggs is just as unsettling and unlikely.

Ill just have to remember its a game and doesnt need to make it clear whats going on behind closed doors at the mall.

Edit:Above post nailed it for me cheers

Supermutants, dont have a gender. there all female/male

Only the Vault 87 ones. The Mariposa ones do have gender, but all are still sterile.

The mutation has some severe side effects. Chief among them is sterility. As the gametes of the reproductive system consist of 'half-cells' using split DNA, they are perceived as 'damage' by FEV, which repairs them, rendering the mutants sterile. Super mutants are unable to reproduce with any creature, whether clean or mutated. Other side effects include an alteration of pigment of the epidermis. While the super mutants originating from Mariposa are sterile, they do not lose their sixual organs. In contrast, the Vault 87 strain of FEV causes the subjects to lose most of their visible sixual identifiers. Interestingly enough, they lack toes.

Before anyone brings it up: Marcus's comments in FO2 about pregnancy at the Cats Paw are considered a joke, according to the bibles.

Both the Master, and some supermutant groups in Fallout tactics have researched into "restarting" the supermutant reproductive cycle but haven't yet achieved it. Some FEV critters do reproduce (Deathclaw) so a solution to the problem may be possible with enough research, but given the lack of inteligence of most FEV infected folks and the lack of motivation for non FEV infected folks to do this research it probably isnt going to happen.

Pretty sure Fawkes explains this, too. If you know about Vault 87, you'd probably only be a little ways off from finding this out yourself. :)

I was under the impression that supermutants were modified humans
The ones on the top floor at germantown police HQ talk about memories of being human (if you sneak up on them and listen for a little)
Uncle Leo gives a brief account of a human past
and there's vault 87, which appears to be some kind of expirimental, dna-twisting facility

Yes, they are humans mutated with the FEV virus. It's been common knowledge since Fallout 1.

From the impression of this thread, it doesn't seem like that anymore............
