FO has had a history of ... mostly sidestepping the question of children. Largely, IIRC, due to EU or UK issues relating to the ability (or lack thereof) to do violence to children. In FO3, this manifests as kids being marked "Essential"; in FO2 and FO1, all the kids were made invisible (their models were removed) in the UK distribution of the games.

And let's be honest with ourselves, for a moment: the plight of children in a post-apocalyptic world like that portrayed in ANY of the fallout games would be distinctly unpleasant. To be perfectly honest, I think Bethesda showed some cojones just by having kids as slaves, in Paradise Falls.

Well, Im not saying Megaton burst and chldren in Megaton turn into Ghoul...

Im just saying like a friendly ghoul who happens to be a child just show up as NPC.

In place like Underworld, it lacks immersion when it is a city of ghoul but absolutely no children exist.

Well I know that ghouls are sterile and cant have their own children. But if you mean a regular kid turned ghoul, i'm not really sure if they grow and get taller or if children just cant withstand the process of becoming one.

From what i know of ghouls,

1. They cannot have children, hence no more are made
2. The majority were made during the Great War, hence are over 200 years old now.
3. Ghouls still age (abit much more slowly then humans) so any that were children are advlts by now.

I was surprised there was no media explosion over the child slavery issue.

Usually the Daily Mail over here (right wing, terrorists everywhere, AHH immigrants!- type paper) picks that up.

Even fox news, i remember the [censored] they kicked up about being able to have six with an alien in mass effect.

The whole sidestepping children issue is completely ridiculous. So a kid is a slave in a game, or they get riddled with holes from an SMG, what does it even mean to anyone anywhere in the real world, honestly.

Grrrr.

The issue of ghoul children has never been raised, but to give it a reason, I'd say a child would die from the incredible strain it puts on the body to mutate. Much like you don't see smaller child muties, they're probably a light snack for a mutant anyway, child bones are more malleable so they could arguably just pop the whole thing in and start chewing.

I believe, if my memory serves, that there was a scientist in Van Buren which had figured a way to birth ghoul children, or create them in some way. But someone else might be able to comment more accurately on this.

Generally, I agree. Sadly, the rest of the world can't handle the separation of reality and fantasy. These are the very people who think, for example, that looking at pormography can turn you into a rapist.

Or, to sum the problem up ... two words: Jack Thompson.

From what I recall of the design documents, there too: the Ghoul would be born fully advlt (and the non-ghoul mother does not survive childbirth). Physically, at least.

With Both West-coast, and East-Coast Ghoul, the current batch of ghouls are the last... The huge amounts of radiation makes them sterile.

And as their mutation is a result of radiation, I cant see any other version of ghoul being able to concieve either... With Supermutants I think its at least plausable there could be a batch of FEV developed that didnt slow/stop the reproductive system (if unlikely as most FEV research ended before the war without this breakthrough).

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Born_Ghoul, it's mentioned in the Van Buren design document, but it hasn't shown up in any of the games.

I don't care if the ability to kill children is removed from the game. What I WOULD like to see though, is the ability to seal all the Lamplight brats inside their cave forever, just like what is threatened in dialogue options with MacCready. Don't have to kill any of them, just dynamite the entrance.. :)

If, as Three Dog sez, ghouls are just people "who were exposed to an ungodly amount of radiation and didn't have the good fortune to die" wouldn't people occasionally be going ghoul to this day? Perhaps someone falls into a bomb crater or wanders into the disposal site or simply doesn't derad often enough. I had an idea of that happening to the Vault Dweller at the end of FO3 (original ending discounting the various downloads/additions). If nothing else, it'd make for an interesting angsty fanfic.

Edit note: I've never played the first two games so I couldn't comment about them; my only previous exposure (no pun intended) to Fallout prior to Fallout 3 was Fallout:Brotherhood of Steel.

which was really convenient the just she survived and turned into a ghoul so she could continue providing you with goods.

anyways, didnt the hotel owner in the Abyss or sixth ring or whatever the ghoul town was named (im already starting to forget names in FO3, which really shows how unimpressed i was with it) tell you that she was a little girl when the bombs fell? that her dad turned into a spot of sot on the wall befor eher eyes?

Sixth ring xD Ninth Circle :P I'm surprised I remember it, I was equally unimpressed. Yes there was a ghoul in underworld that was a survivor of the war. All the ghouls from Vault 12 would have been too.

No ghoul babies, though ^_^

She may have said that she was a little girl but in reality (reality in fallout  ) she was in her twenties when the bombs dropped.
