Not sure about picking it up anymore bad reviews

Post » Sat Dec 25, 2010 11:19 am

If you check out the wall of Eykemans at IGN, you can see the guy is a freakin' noob who joined the IGN reviewers community only 3 weeks ago. This goes to show you that all game devs who don't fork over a nicely sized 'gift' to IGN get their games reviewed by noobs who don't have a [censored] clue what they're doing. I'm speechless that they would allow someone like this guy to write a review on their site for such a highly anticipated game as Brink.

Well, it depends on the game, really.

I am going to wait for more reviews (especially from Gameinformer and other places who decide to wait for the patch before deciding---for which I thank you very much, GI and others!)
before deciding.

I also look at BOTH the positives and negatives when reading a review and take that into consideration.
Lately, with games being more costly than ever, I also keep my eye on Metacritic.

If a game has more positive than negatives, then I think the game could potentially be worth my time.

Notice that I said, POTENTIALLY, since not all games that good reviews are going to be my cup of tea. Ex: God of War, Heavenly Sword, Silent Hill games, Ninja Gaiden, etc.

Plus, there are some niche games that I like that have 6-7/10 reviews----the Harvest Moon games (which I LOVE LOVE LOVE and buy
most of those and keep looking for the new one in the series) are great example of this.

My sister loved Custom Robo on GameCube which got, like 65 on Metacritic.

There are also "casual" games that my family love that get average reviews, too, sooo.......(Then again, we usually buy things cheaper or pre-owned.)

So far, on Metacritic, Brink--the Xbox360 one (which, I might add, still needs a patch or something)
since PSN is down for the PS3, of course, lol----13 Positive, 4 Mixed and 2 Negatives. So far, so good.... ^_^

I know GameRadar's pretty good as well as Eurogamer (I use those to check for reviews from time to time). :)

Waiting for Gameinformer and maybe Gamespot (which is a pretty harsh site, let me tell you, so if it gets anything above a 6, it should be pretty good), and maybe Gamespy, too.

I need more data and impressions and thinking about things. :geek: It's still early at this point.

There are some games that get negatives and mixed reviews, but then later get some more positive reviews, so it's too early for me to tell. Maybe Brink will end up being a niche
game or will get better with DLC's and patches? Who knows?

Then, once I look at the overall scores, I would look at the negatives/issues/concerns all of the reviewers have and then make an educated decision from there to decide if this game overcomes its shortcomings and is worth playing for fun.

I always ask myself, "Now that I know what I'm getting into, do I think this game looks fun---despite its flaws?"

If a review could change your mind that easily to the extent you wont try out the game for yourself then you obviously werent that keen on getting the game in the first place

If you want to see the other half of reviews, just go to the splash damage page for it

http://www.splashdamage.com/content/first-wave-brink-reviews-spawned

I personally find reviews much more useful when you tease the bad comments out of generally good reviews rather than attempting to do the opposite.

I'd be more enthusiastic if the story was stronger...but after waiting months for this I kind of have to buy it.

I thought the gametrailers review was fair. Although you can kind of tell that the reviewer was going to give it a low score from the tone of his voice.

I agree with the complaints about the SMART system, it's a bit glorified, and not a huge element in any gameplay mode, not in any vast tactical way anyhow. The small number of maps
is also a problem for those who will play hours and hours.

I'm going to buy it just for the different gameplay style, more team oriented. I just hope I don't have to deal with a ridiculous amount of lag or choppy gameplay that would kill it for me.

I still plan on getting brink but I bet it wont do too bad. I doubt it will hurt Bethesda stocks(too many epic games) like homefront did THQ's. I accept the fact that it's not the best game ever but It's still a game I find enjoyable, and thats all that matters. I expect a rainbow six approach we will see a brink two in 1- 2 years and that will be a game more worthy of our attention.

Enough about the reviewers though I mean they have to deal with E3 [censored] soon and before that the press pre E3 stuff next week. Infamous is going to be hurt bad from E3. Also don't harass other people who don't like brink over twitter guys its not cool. We all keep asking them to respect OHO so please respect theirs.

Edit: I'am ready to use these..just..need to input..pre..order..code and.. READY :D

No. I tend to stay away from reviews since I have played games that got like lower than a 5.0 and were still fun as hell. So I tend to stay away from reviewers all together. Unless it's Classic Game Room HD :)
