No more nifty character-customization sliders.

Basically, pick from a preset of noses, and then adjust the size and positioning. The customization in Oblivion svcked. Too many options that didn't make sense, some that didn't even do anything.

All the slider made sense to me. What did not make sense was how much they where tyed to each others limiting so much the possibilities for good or bad.
The firt succeffull mod for facial customization was one that loosened this ties. Making a character face was a little longer but you could definitly do something way worse or way better and above all more akin to what you intended/wished.

One thing that I liked about Mass effect was the character customization

Even though you only had a few options there was a lot of variety (http://www.masseffect2faces.com/index.php)

And what was even better was the fact that you could use the coding to do the face gen for you (as I am apparently inherently bad at using face gens I find this to be a very useful feature)

I like Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 as a whole, but I never liked the character customization. There is an illusion of variety, but in reality players are stuck with the exact features as any other player. You can either make a character that is decent at best given the tools provided, or downright fugly for those who choose the Renegade path or just want a joke character. It works for a game like Mass Effect where the top focus is Shepard's story and combat, but not for an open world fantasy RPG like Morrowind or Oblivion whose major selling point is allowing the player to become whoever they want to be within his alternate world. I would urge BGS to leave options for players that want to customize every aspect of their character, while making it simple enough for those who don't.
