Installing all the Unofficial Oblivion Patches (OMOD version

Post » Mon Jan 03, 2011 3:24 am

Anyone know if any ill effects will occur if I install all the Unofficial Oblivion Patches (OMOD Versions) and put their respected .esm/.esp files in the right order via OBMM while still having Player Made Mods still active in the game's data folder, or should I do a clean reinstall of the the whole GOTY game, then put in the Unofficial Patches, and then the player made mods that I'm still currently using?

Here's the current mods I'm using in the proper load order as both ordered by BOSS and recommended by the mod's respected authors!

It's fine to add them to an ongoing game.

Okay, but what about an ongoing modded out game where your character has modded weapons, modded clothes, and modded spells? My character has at least 3 weapons from mods (a spear courtesy of the Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina mod, a sword courtesy of finishing and beating the final dungeon of the Lost Spires mod, and a crossbow courtesy of the Crossbows of Cyrodiil mod), not to mention that my main character's last major save point is currently in a dungeon crawl in the Nascosto Isles, that she's a female character, and is using the HGEC female body replacer mod!

Bump!

Anybody else know if I should uninstall all my current mods before installing all of the the UOPs, and then reinstall the mods I have or just install the UOPs with the mods I have still active? So far only one person answered me! I need more people's suggestions!

Man, it's fine. Oblivion is very robust when it comes to adding/removing mods in an ongoing game. You should of course run BOSS to get the correct load order - but that goes for when adding mods before starting a new game as well.

What's the point of giving advise if the one asking doesn't even trust the advice given?

I was asking others to give me advice as to how I should go about the UOP installing thing!

UOP does replace some meshes and can overwrite mod content. If the UOP icon in OBMM is red before installation use the conflict detector to see what conflicts. It may be perfectly safe to overwrite most things but body-replacer armour meshes shouldn't be. Not game-breaking but can be visually unappealing.

If using BAIN, just put them at the top of your install order.

Other than that, just listen to Arkngt.

You're right! I haven't yet activated the UOP OMOD yet, but the file in Oblivion Mod Manager is showing up as red and I went to find out what it's likely to conflict with, and bigger than anything, it does highly conflict with Onra's heightmaps LOD meshes and textures.

Yes it's safe, yes you should listen to Arkngt's advice and yes the UOP will conflict with most mods but these conflicts are benign.

No it's not game breaking as far as plain vanilla content goes, but it could break the user made mods I have installed! What do I do?

You can get away with deactivating the omods whose changes you want to keep, activate UOP then reactivate those mods. You don't have to deactivate everything necessarily.

If I were to start over, I would use BAIN instead of OBMM since it apparently handles situations like this better but I have invested too much time in omods to change now.

The thing is that the Mod the UOP majorly conflicts with is not in OMOD form, and two of the mods I have (2 of the biggest ones, actually (Onra's heightmaps and Illiana's Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina mods) I could never turn into OMODs for some strange reason, so the only thing I can do is do the hard part of having to reinstall the meshes and textures for he heightmap mod all over again! I just hope that I don't mess up my game in the process!

This is why you should just learn to use Bash. All your problems would be solved, non-existent even.
Congratulations, you have discovered the limitations of obmm *Level Up Sound* ^_^

When BAIN came along I had all replacers and 230+ mods installed with OBMM.

I just got so tired of situations like this that I took to BAIN pretty quick and it took me a fair amount of time to convert it all to BAIN (maybe two weeks of my gaming time to get everything done - but I kept playing too). The good news is that you don't have to do it all at once. Just take sections at a time - the more you convert the more control you will find yourself having over your install. It is encouraging as all the vague and gray areas of 'wait what was installed first?' or 'What was in that OMOD again?' go away and every package is seen for what it is in relation to every other package. Plus you get to change install order - imagine it like being able to change the install order of the omods without having to uninstall and reinstall.

No more black box installing.

Level up!

when Gary Bash came to fallout it was the same thing except I did redo all my FOMODs and BAIN packages before transferring even one.

I was pretty lucky that the only problems I had with installing the UOP OMOD (which is how it was made as I downloaded the OMOD version of the UOP) was with the LOD and distant LOD relating to Onra's SOTD mod! So basically I just reinstalled the meshes and textures from the Onra SOTD mod (much simpler than I thought, btw) as the UOP OMOD didn't overwrite anything else (only because everything else I made into OMODs and had deactivated before installing the UOPs)!

Now I need to know if my .esm/.esp mod load order is correct after installing the UOPs and running the mods load order thru BOSS?!

Load order.
