Stars, Magicka and Sithis

Post » Mon Jan 03, 2011 3:17 pm

I have another theory that I want to share.

Its about Sithis again, and the night, and the stars. Sithis is the nothingness. Its also stated that Sithis is the night. So Sithis is the outer space.

But what about the stars in the outer space?

As you can learn from the Book "Magic from the sky", the stars contain some power that can be converted to magicka. I don't really know much in Lore about magicka, but in general magicka gives people the power to control and alterate the nature. How can that be?

So what I thought about: Maybe these stars are the souls of the people whose bodies died. The souls are send to Sithis, to the void. Maybe the stars represent them. This would also explain why magicka is so strong to be able to alterate the nature: It is the energy of thousands upon thousands of souls.

Another aspect that made me give this theory a serious consideration is that Varla Stones are able to recharge weapons. Enchanted weapons are weapons filled with the energy of a soul. A Varla Stone contains the energy of very many souls and so can be used to recharge very many weapons. The only other option to recharge weapons is a soul gem, which is also just energy of a soul.

All in all, Magicka would just be soul energy, as it is in enchanted weapons too as we know.

I know its odd, but I thought it would be worth a thought especially because I plan on roleplaying a Sithis Worshipper in the future. I just want to know if this could be possible.

The stars are literally holes in a veil of some sort between the mortal realm and the space occupied by the daedras and the other good guys. The Nine

Every Et'Ada that didn't participate in creation or stay behind afterwards made those holes when they fled. The light is from Aetherius where they reside. It's also how magicka flows into Mundus.

Anyways, souls aren't sent to Sithis/the void. They are recycled in a thing called the Dreamsleeve.

interesting. However, rather than being sent to Sithis, souls get recycled at sovenguard (sleeper's-arm cover, or dreemsleave.) Also, Stars are holes/tunnels in the fabric of Mundas that lead to Aethurius. Hese holes were made by fleeing Et'ada who didn't want to give part of themselves to the creation of mundas, but had already enered it. The Sun is just a really, really big one.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thank you. But that opens new questions.

1.What does "recycled" mean in this case?
2. In Lady Nerevars Link, its stated that the void in the outer space is actually Oblivion? I don't understand this. Maybe I just misunderstand something here, English is not my main language and so it could be that I dont understand everything correctly. But if the void in space would really be Oblivion and not Sithis, what is Sithis then?
3. Again Lady Nerevars link. All this is a bit difficult to understand for me. I just want to sum it up. Every of the nine Divines has his own planet, and in fact IS this planet. Nirn is the planet that was created by the power of the gods who were forced by Lorkhan to create it. It functions as the planet where mortal people can live. Right so far?
4. The gods planets are of infinite size. How can that be and why are moons smaller, although their size should be infinite? Why are only the two moons visible and where are the planets of the gods?
5. What is Aetherius in detail?
6. How reliable ís this source?

But this makes me really doubt about the whole Sithis worshipping thing. It seems like the DB has no idea what Sithis is and I cant find out exactly what it is either. Vicente says that Sithis is the night, but if the night is actually just Oblivion, what is Sithis?

Im really confused. But I hope you can help me a bit :)

First thing to understand is that the worshiping of something has nothing to do with whether it is an actual divine being. I can worship a juice box, attribute miracles to it, preach its gospel, and kill for it. The fact that the juicebox is (probably) not a divine being doesn't prevent me from believing it to be. Similarly, Sithis being a force does not prevent the DB from worshiping him as a sentient god. What the DB worship is a combination of Lorhkan and Mephala.

1) Recycled means stripped of its memories and returned to a blank base state, then sent into a new body on Nirn.
2) The 'void' is indeed Oblivion. Sithis is the void in the sense that he is nothingness (as opposed to everything-ness). He is also Chaos (as opposed to Order) and IS NOT (as opposed to IS or I AM).
3) Yes, more or less. The less comes in when you say that Lorkhan "forced" the gods to create it, since different cultures view it differently.
4) They are a smaller infinity than the planets :P You can get all mathematical here (see: calculus), or, more simply, attribute it to mortal stress. We can't perceive an infinity within another infinity, hence we view them as balls of varying sizes.
5) Its magic.
6) It depends largely on your definition if reliable. Its not contradicted by anything in game, and it supports stuff in game, so most consider it valid.

But the Dark Brotherhood seems to misinterpretate Sithis. Often they say that killing someone will "send his soul to Sithis". This is not true then. In fact, the soul is just recycled and placed into a new body, so killing someone does only kill the mortal body, but the soul will return.

Oh wait. This means that this killing of people could be understood as purification of a tainted soul, couldn't it? But in how far would this be related to Sithis?

He is also Statis (as opposed to action)

I thought he would stand for change and chaos rather than stasis?

Yes, he does. My internet was crapping out, couldn't get to sources. Its been edited.

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-monomyth, too.

Again, it doesn't matter that they are wrong. In their view, they are right, and thats good enough for them.

Ok. This means Sithis is kind of the Creator of Everything although he is Nothing. Interesting.

This also means that I can worship Sithis without being necessarily "evil", doesn't it? Im not entirely sure, but I don't really understand the association Sithis -> Evil. Sithis seems to have played a major part in the creation of everything, so also of the Nine Divines.

Yes, you can worship Sithis and not be evil. The Dark Brotherhood chose to choose him as a patron, but he is not a negative deity. As for nothing creating everything, check out what Hellmouth said in your other thread (in the future, it would really be better to keep all these questions together, as they are essentially one topic).

Hell, you can worship Mehrunes and not be evil, since Mehrunes is really just change.

From the other thread,
To get an idea of what Sithis is, read the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-monomyth.

To quote,
All Tamrielic religions begin the same. Man or mer, things begin with the dualism of Anu and His Other. These twin forces go by many names: Anu-Padomay, Anuiel-Sithis, Ak-El, Satak-Akel, Is-Is Not. Anuiel is the Everlasting Ineffable Light, Sithis is the Corrupting Inexpressible Action. In the middle is the Gray Maybe ('Nirn' in the Ehlnofex).

In most cultures, Anuiel is honored for his part of the interplay that creates the world, but Sithis is held in highest esteem because he's the one that causes the reaction. Sithis is thus the Original Creator, an entity who intrinsically causes change without design. Even the hist acknowledge this being.

Anuiel is also perceived of as Order, opposed to the Sithis-Chaos. Perhaps it is easier for mortals to envision change than perfect stasis, for often Anuiel is relegated to the mythic background of Sithis' fancies. In Yokudan folk-tales, which are among the most vivid in the world, Satak is only referred to a handful of times, as "the Hum"; he is a force so prevalent as to be not really there at all.

In short, Sithis is a force, not a god. To put it in real life terms, worshiping Sithis would be like worshiping gravity. You may off human sacrifices by pushing people down a cliff, and so on, but gravity really isn't going to give a damn who or what you are, it's gravity and you'll fall down like everyone else. Same way with Sithis. No matter how many people you kill, Sithis really isn't going to care, because it's just a force.

To put into more of an idea what Sithis is, look at the other half, Anuiel. To have an even better idea, go back to Anu and Padomay, as Anuiel and Sithis are the souls of those two, respectively. With Anu, for example, is infinity, complete and utter stasis, complete and utter potential energy, white, The immovable object, etc. Padomay, on the other hand, is 0, complete and utter entropy, compete and utter kinetic energy, black, the unstoppable force, etc. With Anu, people would be infinity feet tall and infinity years old. With Padomay, people would be 0 feet tall and 0 years old, to put it very simply. When you combine the two, you get people that are 5 feet tall, 100 years old, etc. In other words, variables.

Ignore what the Dark Brotherhood says, they're nothing but a bunch of crazy psycho and sociopaths. Even they cannot agree what Sithis is, just talk to them.
