Origin of the Mage's Guild Quest help

Post » Tue Jan 04, 2011 7:45 pm

As the thread topic says, I'm looking for a tidbit of information on a quest from the mod Origin of the Mage's Guild.

This quest has you hunting for a dwarven ruin/mine/settlement in the Valus mountains in order to retrieve a few parts for a Dwemer spider. However, I'm at a loss as to where to find this ruin/mine/settlement anywhere in said mountains. I've found all sorts of places I'd never found before, but still none specifically dwarven.

Now please be aware, I'm not looking for an all out "Here's where you go and you find it in location X." I am simply looking for a tip of "Look east of Cheydinhal" or "Southwest of the V in "Valus Mountains" on your in-game map.

Finally, please try and keep this thread specific to the topic, and thanks in advance to anyone who might have found such a location and can offer a bit of help.

Thank you again.

I can help you when I get home from work in about five hours, if no one else has offered an answer by then.

You need a particular component of CUO - CUO_Dwemer.esp. This adds 6(?) Dwemer ruins across the Valus Mountains. You could, if you prefer, add components via console since everything is contained in CURP, the esp mentioned above merely 'activates' the mines (I think).

Yup, wetblanket is correct, you need to download CUO and install the CUO_Dwemer.esp. Origin of the Mages guild doesn't place any Dwemer ruins or artifacts in the world, these are added by CUO_Dwemer. OMG just makes use of them in that quest. The mines are all located in the Valus Mountains, north of Bruma.

Hrm, any chance of a link to the Dwemer mod? I can find the rest of the CUO updates to Bruma and the other cities, but the dwemer one seems to be a little tricky.

Yup, http://www.fileplanet.com/215489/210000/fileinfo/The-Elder-Scrolls-IV:-Oblivion---Cyrodiil-Upgrade-Overhaul-Mod-v6.6. It's in included in this pack. :)

Aha! Thank you much. Downloading it and the other CUO files for the cities as well now. I wonder though if Bravil's CUO is compatible with the Blood & Mud mod, since both seem to do major changes to the Bravil city itself, and the surrounding regions.

No, if you tried to use them together there would be a ton of incompatibilities inside the city. CUO Bravil doens't make any changes to the surrounding regions, but both of them completely overhaul the inside of the city and wouldn't work together. I don't know of any patches either. If I remember right, Better Cities might patch all three together, so that might be worth looking in to if you're interested in that. But I don't think there's any stand alone patch for just CUO_Bravil and B&M.

That's right, there is no way to use CUO Bravil with Blood & Mud, unless you also use Better Cities Bravil: Blood & Mud Edition, along with the compatibility patch for CUO Bravil.

That's what I thought, thanks for the confirmation Vorians. :)

Hrm, I've never really thought about using Open Cities. Seemed like too much trouble. I'll probably have to pass on using both at once I suppose. No worries. Thank you all for your help. :)

No one mentioned Open Cities. There is no way to use CUO Bravil with Open Cities, only with Better Cities.

Ack, I meant better cities. Bah. I'm getting confused. I know that one of the "xx Cities" mods has always seemed like a pain. EVERYTHING was incompatible with it, and required patching. I think it was open cities, and my brain just immediatly thought "open cities" was what we were discussing. Meh, I'll have to do more homework I think. Thank you again.
