possible reason for there being no x or y sigils

Post » Wed Jan 19, 2011 11:10 am

its been a while since i posted on this forum but I was regoing over the deadric sigils and it occured to me why there might not be a x or y sigil. The reason I came up with is that the deadra are genderless and since in genetics x and y chromosones are used to desisquish between genders. it might be a long shot but what do yall think?

It's a long shot, alright. I'm guessing no. Remember that certain letters in our own alphabet are fairly recent additions, and some which used to exist have fallen out of vogue.

Considering that I doubt that people in Tamriel are familiar with genetics (And indeed, considering that many aspects of the setting don't operate on real world physics, according to our knowledge of the Elder Scrolls cosmology, it may be that genetics, as we know it, doesn't exist in Nirn at all.) and the letters "x" and "y" have other uses beyond the X and Y chromosomes, and indeed date back to before anyone would know what a chromosome is, I'd say that yes, it's a pretty long shot. I'm not really sure why the Daedric alphabet lacks x and y, but I'm sure that it has nothing to do with the x or y chromosomes or lack there of.

Off the top of my head, the only scientific principle in TES that works distinctively differently from its real-world counterpart is genetics.

Ohhh yeah, and while Divayth Fyr is most advanced person of Tamriel in genetics, capable even for cloning, he features daedric "Y" in his banner of Tel Fyr.

Whatever he did, they're all female and have distinctive personalities.

Well, genetics can't quite explain the Lunar Lattice.

It can't explain lycanthropy either. Which also seems to have connection with the moons.

So, we're in agreement that genetics, as we know it, does not really apply to TES?

As I said before, it's one of the few things I can actually think of that works distinctively differently from its real life counterpart.

So your world includes gods? Or at least sky scraping Deadric princes?

Where do you life and how do I get there? :P

I don't include things that either have no real-world counterpart to compare to, or the existence, or lack thereof, of said real-world counterpart is a controversial topic not allowed for discussion on these forums. For thing such as magic and metaphysics, I see them as supplementing, not replacing, science.

For the love of all that is cute and fuzzy, lets not open this can of worms yet again. Beating a decomposing horse here.

I saw this thread and thought the argument was going to somehow play off of the X and Y planes on a graph, noting how the Daedric interpretation of spacial dimensions would be different from ours. Not that this is true, it's just what I thought the thread was going to be about.

Continue along, nothing to see here.

I thought the same thing. Was hoping for some kind of tamriellic mathematics discussion.
