MOD yourself a life!

Post » Sun Jan 30, 2011 2:58 pm

I'v read about 70% of the threads on this site and thay all have one thing in common can you guess what that is?.......MODS!! somewhere in all the theads i'v read is the mention of a mod mostly in response example: I'll just mod this or that..or..sounds like mod material to me.How good are you at modding? I'm willing to bet a lot of you are very good at it which brings me to my point. What if bethesda ran a contest for you guys top dungeon mod becomes a real addon for the game an addon for all to enjoy console gamers and pc gamers alike.Top mod wins a lifetime supply of bethesda games or maybe the chance to work with bethesda as an intern.I dont think this idea is far fetched as it would cost bethesda nothing and would get people that much more involved in the game whats more is bethesda might pickup a strong asset for their team that is if some of you are as good as you proclaim to be.

I think it's a good idea.As a console player I dont have access to mods, but if Bethesda chose the best one and made it into some downloadable content for consoles I would surely purchase it.It would give console players a taste of what other fans are able to do,and would be a great contest and challenge for all the modders out there.
Maybe even hook someone up with a job,I like it.

It has already been stated that this is not going to happen.

We like seeing the mods that are made by the community, but we have no plans to make them available as official releases.

Similar to Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, the tools for Skyrim are PC only. There's no plans to release a version of the Creation Kit on consoles. If you're into modding, we suggest you go for the PC version.

I may be good enough, I wish they would hire good modders, I actually figured out a way to get spears in the game for NPC's but it doesn't work with the actual player. And they do hire modders if you also went to college and had an awesome portfolio. Some of their addons wern't that great though, mainly fighters stronghold, I could have done that, probably a little better than them if I had time, and I found it really found it cheap that they just retextured one sword and made it one handed

i dunno about FREE GAMES FOR LIFE but maybe like a copy of the collector's edition signed by the team or something would be neat. give people a little incentive to do more than nvde mods and ports of Japanese clothing mods.

What is that if not asking for a mod to be made available to the community? Oh, and watch the tone of your posts please, using the facepalm smiley as you did is classed as flaming here.

Popular games like Halo have user-generated content contests, with a far more limited range of tools given to the community. I can see why they'd be reluctant, though. Using Oblivion as an example, if a single mod were released, people would begin to wonder why other popular mods weren't -- I can see demand from console users for Deadly Reflex and the HGEC body. I'm sure it was made so people wouldn't get their hopes up. Bringing attention to the mod community might bring attention to the more distasteful mods out there. If Bethesda chose to release one mod, another modder might try to start drama because "they had the idea first in Mod X" or whatever.

That being said, just because Bethesda has said something isn't going to happen, that does not preclude the community from saying they'd like it anyway.

You're going to get banned or warned or something. I'd edit that while you're ahead . . .

EDIT: You realize he's a mod, right?

If you look slightly to the left of his post, you'll see it says the word "Moderator". Twice. That's why he gets to tell you to watch your facepalmings, and that's why he eats souls. I think.

I've modded Dragon Age, Oblivion, and Starcraft 2...both solo, and working with people from all over the globe, primarily via skype.

I certainly plan on modding Skyrim. I'm currently fondling over an idea about a new faction, a Mage/Soldier Vampire faction with a quest line that builds up to invading and conquering a minor Daedra's plane of oblivion.

Before I do that or whilst doing that, I'll be making a few new perks and spells, creatures and things of chaotic randomness like a zombie plague lol.

Oh, and a mod that puts in some Bleach swords and powers would be awesome - particularly flash step and cero. I'll definitely get around to implementing the latter, but for the swords I only will if one of my more artistic friends are willing to make the new sword models and textures lol.

This is just a "What if?" Scenario to get out peoples best ideas. At least thats how i took it. Its like an "wouldnt that be awesome" kinda thing. Like when i tell my friends about what if zombies took over.

Pet peeve, but "mod" is a shortening of "modification", not an acronym.

To be fair Pete explained in a podcast that Bethesda was experimenting around with that stuff at the time. Their mentality of pricing on some stuff like horse armor due to the people who buy gamers pics, etc. for the price range was a nice guess. Of coarse even with that nickel and diming in their early stages their not as bad as EA and Bioware. Rip content out. Add one as "bonus content" as a download instead of on the disk. Charge for the rest. And even with all their additions neither Mass Effects by themselves have as much content as Morrowind or Oblivion. I like the ME's by themselves though. They've learned the pricing structure. Although I've noticed something many devs do. I.E. Use game hype and make a mediocre game add on for a few dollars. Then one of the next 2-5 packs end up being very bang for your buck. Almost makes me wonder if it's a funding maneuver. Then again, releasing a great dlc in the first place builds more hype and demand. Either way, hope Bethesda continues their line of adding so much content in their game that I doubt anyone's played literally every inch of content on their disks(Wether that's good or bad content).

This sums it up pretty well. Further discussion about future possibilities would have been nice, alas, some folks just couldn't be constructive.
