Changing direction in mid-air

I'm going to have to try this next time I run OB. Because I can't really remember doing it.

Yep.

Just got done playing this evening's dose of OB. And I tried the whole "change direction in mid-air" thing. And you know what? It worked.

But I also figured why I've never noticed it before - I had to go so completely out of my normal mode of moving, that I came to the realization that I honestly don't think I've ever used that feature - I only jump when moving forward, and have never done it any other way or tried to shift directions.

(I jump to get on top of things or go over fences. Up on a table, up on a rock, etc. So, just moving straight forward.)

Well personally, I'd like to change the encumberance system as well so that you slow down more noticeably when getting closer to your limit, and by the time just before you reach it, you're only able to walk. Though hammerspace is a gameplay aspect I think will have to stay. But on top of not being realistic, excessive changing direction mid-air looks really stupid.

Yes it does look stupid. and i agree about encumbrance. You should not be able to run and jump and roll around, then add one pound and you stop completely.

Voted 'Other'.

I don't mind it, but it would be nice if there were an ingame explanation as to Why. Games which aim for super-realistic visuals should not skimp on the other realisms. Games like Super Mario get away with controlled falls because they eschew all realism.

I just added my notes to your quote. My notes are the ones in bold and underline

In these games clearly you should slip down mountains or have extreme difficulty standing on very thin edges/platforms yet you have been able to stand on very steep slopes in these games or been able to stand on a cheese wire.
^I think they might have fixed this in Skyrim. The way the dovahkiin reacted to the cliff in the trailer makes me think so. but of course I have no way of knowing

But let's just look at some other things that also shouldn't be "fixed".
In fact wearing most of the helms should block off 50% of all vision if not more - after all some helms cover most of your vision in real life. <-you got me with this one. this shouldn't be changed
Wearing your own body weight in armor should mean you should be stuck to walking speeds and have difficulty jumping at all - the slow speeds is one reason power armor in Fallout 3 was tedious and not that much fun.<--this should be changed to what you explained IMO. I just mentioned it in my last post
Walking bear foot across snow should place your character in a lot of distress/discomfort - let's ignore people wanting to have a bit of fun and just wanting to beat up guards/etc with no items at all.<--does the game measure stress and discomfort?
Having large boulders land on your head, spiked balls swing into you or having large logs roll over you should either just instantly knock you out or kill you - that would be an OTT challenge rating. <-well this is HP, which is needed. Lots of things related to HP are unrealistic but it's one thing that can't be overcome yet by anything decent. (although i think an alternative to HP that is actually playable in TES may happen in the distant (maybe near) future)
