The Great Lag Debate

Post » Wed Feb 16, 2011 6:09 pm

It seems that the lag issue is there for some, and not for others - although from all the reading I've done there are a greater number of lag posts than no lag posts :) - however, this clearly doesn't cover those that purchased and never came to the forums.

Anyhow, I was going to pose this question. As we are imminently awaiting the release on Friday in Europe, it will be very interesting to see if there is any issue with Lag in the UK. I've seen little to no reports over here yet from "obtained" formats....so what are you guys thoughts here?

Game is unbelievably laggy for me. Just four of us and everyone else were bots, and we all had green pings yet couldn't walk 5 feet...getting shot by invisible bots lag warping across the maps...so no one can really try and play the "Get a better connection" card because it's clearly the game's netcode.

Agreed. I know the game is P2P, I know that sometimes we are gonna get hosts using morse code for internet, but, I expected a little more consistency. Played a couple of games that were running smooth. But, the majority of the games were either too laggy to play on, or wouldn't even start because of it.

Experienced the same thing last night with just my buddy and I. We were lucky the first few games we had with real people on both sides, but as the night went on it got worse and worse. (XBOX)

Yeah, and the sad thing is...it won't be patched until next month probably.

I've had no problems on PC or Xbox with lag so far. It's been seemless.

Maybe you are trying to play specific maps and because you try to narrow your results so much you get put on the sole server playing that map that is miles away from you?

try reducing how specific your match is :)

Before anybody says "It probably has something to do with your router/internet connection," I get green bars in just about every other game I own (except L4D2, Valve also has pretty crappy servers) so its not a problem on my end.

I wish it were that simple. But no matter if I was specific or just let it ride, the results were still a mixed bag,.

It's easy to say "it's your internet connection" when someone has lag, but that's not the issue here. The issue is with the netcode causing extremely laggy games. If you had the unfortunate experience of playing Crysis 2 before it was patched, you would know what lag caused by coding is like, and what a difference a fix can make.
