Fabricants - where are the animals from?

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 7:37 pm

I haven't found any clues as to where the Fabricants' animals are from. I'm not talking about the cybernetic Fabricants but the animals without the metallic enhancements. I read at UESP that they are "synthetic". Are there any references to the whole of the biological part being synthetic or an actual creature? I no of no form of magic that can create creatures in the Elder Scrolls universe.

Sotha Sil is one of the greatest wizards to ever live. It is possible he invented or learned a means through which he could create synthetic, organic beings.

A wizard most definitely did it. Sotha Sil is a wizard.

The only explanation I can conceive is that he figured out some way to pull it off. It's likely. Sotha Sil, as I said, was one of the most powerful wizards to exist. Not only that, but he was a god, regardless of if he acknowledged it or not. The abilities that being a Triune grants is unknown, but it's more probable that the means he could have used was merely wizardry and not something godly - his abilities were so vast that he hardly acknowledged his godship.

This is only a theory, anyway. I don't think there's any official explanation for it.

We don't rightly know.

Perhaps, for him, the lines between mortal and immortal power blurred and disappeared.

It seems to me that people are overthinking this. Most likely, they're creatures from the mainland, either Morrowind or Black Marsh, probably. The fauna of Vvardenfell isn't really representative of the entirety of the province.

NO! they are clockwork and their presance hints to Sotha Sil. We know that he made them, since he made unique ones to guard himself (imperfect)

The fabricants are his own, because the enhancements he added to them are his own. But that doesn't mean that the original creatures don't necessarily appear in the wild.

Alternately, given that they look like dinosaurs, they may be some primordial monstrosity given new life by the clockmaker.

Are you sure others are over thinking this? They're fabricants, as in, fabricated.

Yes, they, in their altered form, are fabricants, the same way that a cyborg is a cyborg because of its enhancements-- it wasn't born a cyborg. The name "fabricant" can simply refer to the fact that large parts of it, such as its legs or tail, are artificial/fabricated. I was just pointing out that people were getting into somewhat convoluted explanations, when the simplest one, that he found some critters and tinkered with them, seems to be the most likely.

isn't there a machine that pops them out, kind of like an assembly line? Maybe he made the original fabricant, and just mass produced it artificially using his clockwork magic

A puzzle door guards against the player's advancement, the puzzle door is an enemy spawner and this is relevant to solving the puzzle. We don't know how it works outside of the door controls and that the pipes move before a spawn occurs.

If there are machines within the clockwork city, a place meant to model all of the events happening on Nirn, producing Fabricants, what do you think that says about their nature?

Synthetic would imply that they are totally constructed, which makes sense with the name "Fabricants." Sotha Sil was a wizard but he was much more than that, he has powers and knowledge that probably no other mortal has ever known all at once.

As for no "magic" that can create creatures, the Dwemer obviously were able to create robots that mimic life very well. Sotha Sil undoubtable would have studied them and went beyond. I think the Fabricants are just much more complicated and intricate robots. In the end, if you get small enough, robotics would probably appear just like life.

So, they are probably a combination of Dwemer tech, magic, and godly powers only Sotha Sil could have access to.

Two different thoughts come to mind:

1. Their like the immune system of a great organism, killing intruders.

2. Predictive modeling with better technology than the people your predicting must let you occasionally build prototypes of what they themselves will devise according to the model.

Please don't feed the Sload if you can help it. The Devil is far older than you and better versed in Speechcraft. In fact he's somehow haxxed the game and gotten his skill to 234. There can be no victory here.

Divayth Fyr was able to make female clones of himself, why would an even more powerful wizard like Sotha (not to mention he probably still had his godhood when he made them) have any more trouble making something like those beasts?

Good point. Not to cause a diversion in the thread but what evidence do we have that Divyth Fyr isn't as powerful as Seht? It makes more sense to me taht one who has tapped into the heart would have more raw power but do we have any evidence? I can recall some of Seht's exploits from lore but none of Divayth Fyr's. Perhaps this is best left to anther thread.

There's not enough info on Fyr for any conclusive comparison. The only real 'exploits' that we know concerning Fyr are his clones and the fact that he's managed to live longer than the Tribunal.
