Ohmes and Ohmes Raht

Post » Fri Feb 25, 2011 3:04 pm

I believe that Todd confirmed Oblivion's to be Suthay, http://www.imperial-library.info/content/interviews-3-booksellers

Edit: It might've been Ohmes-Raht that Oblivion was.

Daggerfall was Ohmes-Raht, and this seemed to have been confirmed in the book as the head khajiit that helped Attrebus looked very human-like, especially in the face which didn't have fur, but tattoos and all.

I think the Khajiit race is one of the unique parts of Elder Scrolls lore. Of course, we've heard of other fantasy/scifi cat-races, but I think it's cool that there are so many variants and that they change because of the moon cycles. A really original concept. Imagine what difference that makes, if you look to the social implications of that. Your little brother might be the house-cat, another might be a panther. This raises some questions:

Can Khajiit plan when they get a child, and thus plan which type it will be? There are common and less common types, as mentioned in lore, so either they can plan which one they want, or there are a lot of child deaths, or there are types that live less long than the others.

Also, can every type of Khajiit have children? Can they talk with each other (I know some can't talk in common tongue, but can they make themselves understandable in another way? Imagine it's your parents!)

Do Khajiit raise there own children, like in a standard family (and accept that everyone is VERY different from each other)? Or do they first sort them by type, so Ohmes is raised by Ohmes, Suthay by Suthay, etc.

About family structures, I recall that it was specifically referred to in the PG1E.
A particular family-tribe, or pride, might include a hunting party of males that appear like upright jaguars, a few beautiful youths who could pass for Elves were it not for their swishing tails, an uncle or two that would stalk the perimeters on all fours, and a chief who, depending on the moons of his birth, might have the form of any of the above.

Thanks for the quote!
Interesting, so they do grow up in a larger group, and Khajiit of the same type make subgroups with Khajiit of the same subtype!

I think they likely go into heat like IRL cats, so there are probably more common types because of that.
Y'know, they probably have a 'mating season' sort of thing.

Think about your family and the different months you were born in. The moon phases that decide which form will be taken are like the zodiac signs for each of our months. I'm not too sure how the moon phases work but thats the impression I get.

Thanks, interesting thing to think about... (by the way, all the 5 children of my family where born within the same 5 months (end October - mid March, in different years of course), but I don't know if there are months in which humans in general get more children...)

But then why are some more common then other? Theories:
- a mating season, like mentioned by Necro
- Khajiit consciously choose when to mate, so they have the sub-type of Khajiit that they want to have
- Infant death (not a pretty option but possible)

Do you have other theories? What do you think is most likely the case?

The only variants we see are the ones who get out of Elsewyr and aren't put to death for being a monster. Do you think the Pahmar simply have just stopped trying? An Alfiq may get out if he was willing to swallow his pride and disguise himself as a housecat.

October/November and May are the most common in the US. Don't know about other countries. The former, thanks to Valentines Day (not kidding), the latter probably because of the heat of August (nothing better to do). And families tend to be born within a 4 month grouping of each other. Something to do with individual seasonal hormone spikes and the like.

And generally testoserone levels go a bit higher during the summer and so children are conceived
