Daedra lords in TES V

Post » Sun Feb 27, 2011 7:27 am

Do you think Daedra lords will try something to help Dragonborn or Greybeards save Mundus? because otherwise, without Mundus and mortals to play with, they're pretty much screwed.
They won't be able to intervene directly, because Oblivion gates are out of the question, but they could help with artifacts, information and stuff like that.

The Daedra are not helpful. Admittedly, they've got a (small) stake in the destruction of the world, but it'll get rebuilt, that's the thing. That's the beauty of the Alduin/Shor dynamic. One eats the world, the other tricks the gods (including the world-eater) into making it. The gods don't really have free will, when you think about it. The cycle will happen over and over and over again, until someone (some kind of Dragonborn, I guess) breaks the cycle.

The Daedra have got nothing to worry about. They didn't give up a part of themselves to make the world, and they won't do it the next time around, either.

To the princes, Mundus serves as a place to make fun of, and toy with mortals due to boredom. They really do not care too much about its destruction, save for Mehrunes Dagon who really wants it gone, but they would probably be very bored with it gone.

Blasted! I don't find text which told something about this. My impression based on it was that Daedra Princes might not be very happy about Alduin eating world, and they probably would try to stop it. They have done so and prevail often. Or maybe it was Eight and not Daedra Princes. Well anyways, my impression and understanding was that other forces rushes to stop it from happening.

The thing with some accounts concerning Dragon Break tells that all Good Daedra and bad Daedra (in Dunmer ways of looking things) rushed in to "save" Morrowind along with Tribunal, so Dunmer/Chimer would be saved from hazy 1000 years which others suffered "giving births to their fathers" and all that. If this statement isn't full of BS then they have motivations which we don't know.

I honestly doubt the princes will intervene. If they were, why did a bunch of them seem to support Mehrunes Dagon's crusade in OB? MD was there to destroy the world, and seeing plenty of daedra that typically do not follow him leaves a feeling that he even gained support from a bunch of them.

The only role I see is their typical send in the new village idiot to slay the terrible beast or spit in someone's coffee quests.

This is true. Since they didn't object to the last attempt on Mundus' destruction, I doubt they'd mind this one. Though, I think Vile was against it, but then again he didn't really try and stop it.

And the other seven Aedra wouldn't be against Alduin. If anything, they'd be with him.

Where did I read that quote about Daedra liking the mortal world because the mortal lifespan is so short they come up with wonderful toys which amuse the Daedra? I think just for the fact that they would be bored would mean at least some of the Daedra wouldn't want it destroyed though wanting a thing and actually taking action to obtain are two separate levels of commitment.

Monomyth. But as I said earlier, they view mortals as a way to break boredom

I'd imagine that even though Mehrunes Dagon tries to destroy Nirn when he gets the chance, he'd get bored pretty quickly once he succeeded, with no mortals to satisfy his desire for destruction. But then again, it's to be expected that the Prince of Destruction would like to destroy things.

But I'd agree that the Daedric Princes probably won't try to intervene with Alduin's plan. Now, I'm sure we'll still be able to get their artifacts, as rewards for doing quests for them if nothing else, but we could do that in games where the survival of the world itself wasn't at stake too. You do something that suits their goals, so they reward you, that has nothing to do with trying to help you save the world. Other than that, it seems like the only intervention Daedra have had in Elder Scrolls stories have been when they have their own interests to fulfill, like Azura's involvement in Morrowind's main quest. Beyond that, it seems like they employ the "someone else's problem" approach to most crisis we've seen.

On a related note, something that I was thinking but didn't warrant a new thread is why does Hermae Mora want to help you during the oblivion crisis? I didn't experience it myself since I already had deadric artifacts but he is meant to supply his artifact for opening a way into camoran's paradise.

Dagon would be ECSTATIC, because then he'd be free to jump around again.

No.

A worshipper of Hermaeus Mora contacts you after you have served the other 14 princes with visitable shrines (the odd-man out, Dagon, does not offer the player a quest). At the shrine, Hermaeus Mora informs you that his followers want to perform a diviniation, and you are charged with procuring the souls needed for that Divination. After you do that, he gives you the Oghma Infinium. He doesn't want to help you at all, he's merely rewarding you for your service. This quest was given a certain specific set of start conditions so that if the player [censored] up and lost all the previous artifacts they retrieved, they could still procure an artifact to give to Martin. Mora doesn't want to help you, the Developers were being nice.
