Will we have to recharge our magic weapons again?

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 2:06 pm

One of the most annoying things I hated, was finding a cool magic weapon that was usually only useful in a couple of fights before the magic was gone. Then having to go through the trouble of recharging the thing through a pain in the butt process. It would be nice to have weapons that would regenerate their power or even some way you could feed your characters mana into the weapon to recharge it.

Enchantments recharged themself in Morrowind and perhaps the devs found that over-powered. My guess is that the return of the Enchanting skill will cover that, though I feel it might all revolve around soulgems, again.

I completely agree with OP...it was an annoying, tedious system.

In Skyrim, enchanted items should be a lot rarer - you should have to enchant them yourself, or very rarely find them. That rarity should allow them to be perma-chanted. At the very least, have a Soul Gem last a few in-game months, then you pop in a new one. But NOT the old system where after 5 minutes in a dungeon all your weapons have ran out of power!

Dime-a-dozen fiery swords make them less rewarding, make them rare, and make them powerful.

This, almost. Enchantments SHOULD be a lot rarer. Finding a magical item should in itself be something cool... I don't think making them last a long time before manual recharge will fix anything though, I'll still be manically checking how much I've got left. Either make them constant or self recharging

I believe it should be like in Morrowind. Items recharge themselves but it can take a long time. Also, enchantments should be more expencive (need better soulgems for better enchantments). And finally (to keep Oblivion fans happy) you can go to the Mages' Guild and get it recharged, for a price.

That's what I meant, ideally the rare chanted weapons will be permanently charged.

But, this type of thing is VERY easily solved by a mod, so I'm not that worried about it.

I have not kept up with the mod community since the early days of oblivion, but I remember that they COULD NOT create a permanent charge or set up a mod to regenerate your weapons magic charge, because it was something hard coded in the game that prevented that. They might have gotten around it some way, but I am not sure.

I really liked how Morrowind handled this. Automatically recharges, skill determines how many charges you get.
You could easily run out of charges with weapons, but it wasn't permanent. It felt like a good balance between limited and permanent.

Yes Morrowind solved this well, a low level enchant would just run out in intense combat but fill up afterwards, but it let you make heavy enchanted weapon who would require frequent recharging,

no recharging would require that they nerfed enchanted effects hard, a 100 damage staff like the one you could buy in Oblivion would be pretty unbalancing with no recharging 10-20 would be more balanced, making enchant pretty pointless.
Morrowind solved this by simply turning off the enchant effect until later, you could recharge with soulgem or simply wait

Definitely. I like how Morrowind handled enchantments more than how Oblivion handled it. Not to say Oblivion had a bad system, but Morrowind had a better one.

I want my "BOSMER DUAL-KNIFE WEILDING ASSASSIN! " to have a special enchanted dagger! and a normal one. And FLAMETHROWER HANDS! :flamethrower: :flame:

Wtb Flamethrower hands! :flamethrower:
