A Dark Elf and an Imperial?

Post » Fri Mar 04, 2011 6:03 am

Well, that's my question. I was wondering if different races are able to have children together in the Elder Scrolls. Like, can a character be half Elf, half Man?

Sleazy Tiber Septim got Barenziah pregnant and forcibly aborted her child. So, yes.

Who came up with the idea of Mothers genes being dominant for TES?

I dunno but it's obviously not as clear-cut as that or the race of Bretons would not have been possible. Or Helseth's ears would be pointed like an Elf's rather than round like a human's.

I thought they were round, only because one of his ears was torn, so he took a knife and cut the other one to match it.

Also, they said bretons were only possible, because it was centuries of mostly isolated breeding between the nedes and aldmer. The father's genes eventually comes to surface in greater strides if you keep the population in an isolated breeding environment

I've never heard the thing about Helseth's ear being torn. What's your source on that? I assumed his appearance was caused by genetic mixing.

Unlikely, since a) both his parents were Dunmer and b) he's shown with pointy ears in Daggerfall. I don't know where the 'torn ears' thing comes from, but in Tribunal there's a rumour that he had his ears clipped to make himself look more Imperial. If you look carefully at his hair mesh, you can see some kind of jewelled 'caps' around the edges of his ears, presumably to hide the scars from the tearing/clipping.

I forgot where, but I remember hearing something about it.

Agronak isn't half-Dunmer, half-Imperial, but he is half-vampiric Imperial and half-Orc, and Orcs are Elves, so...

As others have said, Tiber Septim, a Nord, did get Barenziah, a Dark Elf, pregnant.

I always though Helseth's ears were just a mistake made by the Devs. Never heard of them being torn or cut. Genetic mixup sounds more probable.

No. I believe there were two explanations given: a) Helseth cropped his ears so that people would see him more like a Man, b) Morgiah bit off the top part of one of his ears, so he cut off the top part of his other ear so it doesn't look as goofy.

Mmh, let me see if this still works.

Rumpleteasza, you British Daggerfal goddess, you know all about Helseth. Care to remind me how he got his ears?

Darling, how can I resist a summons like that?

Unfortunately I'm going to have to disappoint you by not turning up with any hard facts. The rumour I heard was that it was Elysana who bit the tip of his ear off in one of their legendary kerfuffles, which rather appealed to me. I can't find any canon confirmation of this, but it's mentioned in an awful lot of fan posts.

Well, considering the circumstances I can hardly be disappointed. But alas I feared as much. Did he still have his ears in Daggerfall? I believe he did. So where did the rumour come from?

I couldn't say. I've only ever heard the two main theories from fans; no devs as far as I can remember. There must have been something that sparked it, though. The Morrowind Prophecies is the only game guide I don't have - what is it with loan companies considering ES memorabilia "non-essential luxury items", anyway? ;) - so I'm wondering if there's some kind of mention in there.

Yes, they tend to be like that. But perhaps some else knows?

Never the less, it's time to call it a day. It was lovely of you to show up.
