Sentry guns.

So I've been playing medic for the most part, but have put some extra points into the engineer. One of the huge things I am noticing is that the Sentries are pretty much useless. They don't seem to track up and down, and their acquisition time is really slow. Am I just choosing poor locations for my guns, or are they really just completely useless? On the flip side, I love that different classes offer different buffs, and that playing your class for it's role is really important. Now if only I could find some friends to play with!

The light ones are pretty bad, but the medium ones & the Gatling are great.

I believe they should up the tracking speed closer to that of the turrets in TF2, because their current lock on rate and how much damage they can take before going kaput makes the sentries no more than a good shield.

The turrets are pretty weak especially a light turret. They are definitely intimidating though. Until you can get an operative to hack them and make them stronger they are pretty much not going to kill. I use mine as a support weapon. Put it off to the side where my team isn't fighting and it will usually pop out a few rounds if the team tries to rush, netting me some points and throwing out some damage. Also a good strategy is to use the turret as a makeshift detector. Use it to guard a side passage... when it takes damage then you know the enemy is there (the turrets health is on the bottom left sorta). For extra fun place a mine in that same passage, after dealing with the turret 9/10 times the enemy will try to go through that same passage and BOOM. Cook a grenade on the way there and toss it in there to knock them down again. Gun em down and replace the trap. This time put the turret and mine outside the exit of the passage... the mine will knock them down and the turret will start shooting.

You realize they're only meant to be shields and distractions, right?

Do you mean make them lock onto and track enemies faster or slower?

after playing as nothing but engi for the entire solo campaign i feel that turrets are thorny ornaments, they really are not that much of a deterrent when i can sprint in a circle around it and not worry about getting shot, i love the class but the turret just feels a little lack luster,

Is there anything that shows the range that they track? That'd be useful to know. I try and throw mine down where there is only one way they can come from, but they always seem to kill it without incident. :(

So far I think the turrets (from my experience of being on the targeted end of one) they have a pretty good range considering the size of the maps, but the speed at which they track/lock onto an enemy is so slow that the farther out the enemy is the more impossible it becomes for the turret to lock and fire since the enemy can dive into nearby cover.

yes lock onto ppl faster. being a engineer i see ppl run by my turrets in the wide open and it only gets 1 or 2 shots of. Same goes when iam running past them there turret only get a few shots off or i can run in circles around it to destroy it.
