Blessings of Mystara upon ye.

Who the hell is Mystara? There are no gods in the Elder Scrolls universe named Mystara and the name has never come up any other time than when closing conversations with a beggar in Oblivion. Is it just an easter egg type of thing, an intentional reference to D&D? Or some alternate name for something or someone else?

After a quick forum search I believe the consensus is that it is a reference to D&D.

It's an older DnD campaign setting from a few editions back.

I also got it confused with Mara...well,its a pretty big easter egg with beggars saying it over and over again, some would say game-breaking,although I guess it could be another name for Mara considering all the other gods have multiple names.

I guess that it's just an easter egg, but it could be another name for any of the goddesses/Daedra. Or it could be a totally made up god name to the beggars or something. :P

*Beggar kneels to pray*

"Mystara, I pray that you give me strength for today, some people to feel sorry for me and give me coins, and I can bless them in your name, and I can possibly steal some money from some rich nobles, and, OH! And bless the Gray Fox, keep him safe and let him continue to support us, and, wait, I forget where I was going. Anyways, please do all these things." lol

By Akatosh, you're right! I've never noticed this, particularly because I was thinking Mara every time they said it.
