Oblivion updated for Skyrim?

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 7:28 pm

I was playing through Oblivion and I arrived in Bruma, I went into a tavern. I was just standing there when I over heard to people talking about Skyrim. I thought nothing of it given how close Bruma is to Skyrim. However then I went to Chorrol I aheard different conversation that also included Skyrim. Has any one else noticed the same thing? Was oblivion updated???

They don't invent new story lines with a new game. With Skyrim we can see there was already a prophecy that was going to happen even though we didn't know. The whole world is there but not everything is put into the games so ofcourse you hear something about Skyrim in Oblivion.

Maybe thats why in our 5 Year Speculation of what Game will be next, it was Clearly Hinted Skyrim was the Next Game, could Bethesda left it in on Pupoise and what if in Skyrim, we will hear talk of the Next Game.

Actually, I'd imagine they DO invent new storylines with each game. I doubt Bethesda had planned out Skyrim's story from the start of the series, more likely Bethesda worked it out more recently, and then looked back at other games and decided to tie it into previous games by saying that each event from past games was a sign leading up to the events of Skyeim.

Certainly, Bethesda might have been entertaining some ideas of Skyrim's story at the time Oblivion was made, and may have dropped some hints in the game about it, just as in Morrowind there were hints to the events of Oblivion, but I doubt Bethesda had some grand plan to the series detailing every single event that would take place from Arena until Skyrim and maybe beyond, it certainly doesn't look that way.

In any case, the particular dialog mentioned was always in the game, Oblivion has quite a few rumors refering to events in other provinces, Skyrim is only one of the ones referenced.

If you're on a PC, the latest version of the OOO mod uncludes a Skyrim Bandit faction up near Bruma.

The mod also gets rid of the invisible barriers so you can explore a bit further, even though there isn't anything besides rocks and trees.

You hear something about Skyrim, that is true. But if you listen enough to the conversations, you'll notice that they're also talking about stuff happening in the Black Marsh, Deadric Worship becoming increasingly prevalent in the Sumerset Isles and a ton of other things.

I think you've just noticed the Skyrim banter a lot easier because the game is coming out soon. It's a very common phenomenon - you get a cellphone and suddenly you notice everyone else has the same cellphone.

I just started playing oblivion again and was loving it when I saw the skyrim logo in the imperial city market district. I now stop and listen to npcs who are chatting about morrowind/skyrim to soak up any lore I can ( but ill still never read those 100+ page books :cryvaultboy: )

Uh, you really think those prophetic elements were planned to be like that? You don't think they could have decided afterwords that they were part of a prophecy? I mean you could do the same with jsut about any series of games or movies. You could do it with Indiana Jones if you wanted.

I believe that's the mark of the Empire (although it's slightly different for Skyrim) and it's literally all over the place in both Oblivion and Morrowind.

It doesn't seem all that unlikely that you'd hear people talking about the province of Skyrim in a tavern in Bruma

And I'd wager you'd be more likely to hear about Black Marsh than Skyrim in an Inn in Leyawiin
