How -To for installing Dark Darn

Post » Sun Mar 13, 2011 3:09 am

Excuse me for this stupid direction. Will I have to uninstall darn and then install Dark Darn through OMOD?? Or does it need to have Dark and Darn installed before working

Nothing wrong with asking, when you don't know. :) Better that than assuming you do know, when you don't. ;)

It's its own mod (i.e., it doesn't need Dark or DarN pre-installed). Just use OBMM to uninstall the one you have (DarN, right?) first, then install the OMOD version of "DarkUId DarN" (or whatever name it's going by) as you normally would any other mod (using the OBMM methodm that is). OBMM is by far the easiest way to get it installed ASAP. BAIN is possible, but it takes lot more doing, to begin with. But never mind that...

Note that you don't need to uninstall Darn first, as Darn'd Dark will just overwrite that it needs to.

Furthermore, if you rename your Data/Menus folder to something like "Menus - Darn" before installing Darn'd Dark, you will be able to switch back and forth between the two just by choosing which of the two Menus folders that is named "Menus" only. Just make sure that if you have installed any other mods that add/replace anything in the Menus folder, you copy those installations into both versions of the Menus folder.

I currently have 5 such Menus folders, Vanilla, Darn, Dark, Darned Dark and BTmod - it allows me to instantly toggle UI mod when I want to (or need to when I test my UI mods).

I don't want to venture too far off topic, well it's about installation of UI mods, but I suggest you check out BAIN packages. Instead of renaming menus to switch UIs you could simply open Wrye Bash and make a few clicks and switch between any UI or skin. Plus this comes with the added advantages of keeping your data folder less cluttered and everything is already archived for your next install. Check out http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/957424-custom-bain-projects/page__view__findpost__p__13828712 for an idea. Use that for a base then customize your layout to include each different UI mod and any customizations for each mod you wish. Then open Wrye Bash, select your newly created BAIN package and select your options for the day. Install and anneal and within seconds you've totally changed your UI, skins for UIs, texture packs, or entire game for that matter.

Thanks. I agree that is a good general advice - though not for me. I keep the many Menus folders for testing my own UI mods in different combinations, so I need to manually alter/add files inside them - which I don't think BAIN would be very forgiving with. But it's a good advice anyway. :)

Is there a BAIN-friendly package for DarkDarn? I hate going to OBMM just for that installation!
