New comic/review of Brink on Ctrl+Alt+Del

Funny comic. Had a bit of a giggle. However, Tim is just like a lot of the posters here who are having major gripes with the 360 version of the game... except he's been following the game and looking forward to it for longer than most of us. You can tell he's bitterly disappointed and he does speak with some optimism, that the game still has hope... but his overall negative review, though somewhat opinionated, will still develop a negative influence over his audience.

Well, they did mislead us with the game advertising. I did not get what I was buying. Also the huge huge ATI card issues are just mind blowing, I get less than 30 FPS in game, but my OSD FPS counters are saying I'm putting out 100+. This game is broken in more than a few ways.

That guy pretty much explained the feelings of the majority of people who picked this up for Xbox 360. Can't speak for other platforms, but I remain optimistic. I pray that Splash Damage doesn't let the window of opportunity close shut on Brink. All it takes is a good tweak server side, a patch, and one excitingly good DLC and they're back in the mix.

I'm routing for them like I'd would for a play off team down 2-0 in a best of 7 series.

What did you think you were buying?

"(Just to be clear, I have the Xbox 360 version of the game. Obviously PS3 owners cannot get online still, and I cannot attest to the state of the PC version, though I hear they have a whole truckload of problems of their own."

- I'd like to know where this "truckload of problems" are at with the pc version... I have only heard good things about the pc version, the people who complain are playing the console version.

PC version has connectivity issues for coop, ATI has major issues, ambient occlusion is a resource-devouring option for no reason, characters are getting deleted, FOV can't be edited... to name a few.

Oh, and Buckley had an opinion and made an unfunny comic about it? Saints preserve us.

I'm one of the 360 owners that is keeping faith. I've said it a bunch of times so far, and especially as I attempt to play online with others, that I believe we are all running a "beta test" for SD. Honestly, I'll just keep working on unlocking the very cool outfits and weaponry options until the first major patch. It has potential and I just hope it will be realized.

Second, it's not just the console guys that are running into issues; we all are. I hope everyones issues gets resolved and we can talk about how we can't wait for a map pack.

And SD has already stated that they are working on all of these issues... So, whats the problem with the pc version of the game?
No game has every come out perfect, and if people still believe they will get a game that is bug-free and issue-free then they are living in a dream world, it won't happen. What is great about this is that the developers have actually said that they are looking into the major issues. So at some point in the not too distant future, this will get fixed. I can live with that for sure.

As much as people should have patience, in that the first patch or two often makes or breaks a game (in that how the devs handle complaints and issues is important), it does not change the fact that people, right now, who own the game, can't do what they paid to do.

Myself, I am a PC user that encountered only a few issues that were fixed via tweaks. But they are still issues affecting people for whom the tweaks do not work.

He has a point for some things. But usually when someone has been scorned, or feel as though they have, they seem to add salt to every view they have.

I do not agree with his "linear" opinion of the maps and the lack of climable SMART surfaces. If its one thing I have learned already, KEEP LOOKING OVER YOUR SHOULDER, chances are the enemy has flanked you via alternate passages. Me and my team have routed so many enemy advances by "pinching" them.

Teamwork has also saved my life scores of times. With out the health buff, my light or medium Operative will get CHEWED up. In my experiences, I have seen a lot of team work going around. So many times my team has saved my life, or revived me when they couldn't.

He does have a point about the leveling system though. I was able to unlock just about everything in only a day. All the equipment was unlocked in as little as an hour. The challenges were quite simple as I seemed to breeze through them. The character customization also was kinda lacking in what I was hoping for as well.

But my complaints can easily be fixed merely by adding DLCs which give us scores of new weapons, clothing, and attachements, abilities and increased level caps.. I WILL buy them if they come out. Nothing I like more than being able to customize how I play.

PS: I am an Xbox player and the lag is minimal for me. No issues with matches at all. My problems with it are related almost exclusively to content.

Yeah well people are way too impatient these days, they are in the whole "GIVE IT TO ME NAOW I WANT IT NAOW NAOW NAOW!"... Then when they get it before they should get it they go out crying "its horrible, rushed product, you svck!". I am sorry but I will give this game a fair chance, and I hope others will too because the premise is great, and if they do get some of these issues fixed, then the game will be great.

Hehe, I guess to each his own... I like the fact that I don't have to spend ages on unlocking stuff just to play the game.

Whisper, I think you're taking a bit of a hard line here. It's wrong to call people impatient when all they want is to be able to play a game they've paid for on, or even a few days after, the advertised release date. That's not unreasonable.

However, n'ary a PC gamer has existed without cutting their teeth on a rough product waiting for that first patch. It's unreasonable to call something a failure and posture wildly about refunds when the game's not even a week old and SD is doing a very good job of keeping lines of communication up about what to expect out of patches and support.

When people are complaining about lag and connection and netcode issues, and talking about returning their copies and such, when a game has been out for less than 48 hours, yes, they are being impatient.

There are a plethora of different problems that can not be foreseen until a game goes live, and saying things like, "This isn't what I paid for!" is childish and shows the sense of entitlement that makes PC users scorn console gamers and all other countries grumble about Americans.
