So Much Potential. Is it really that bad?

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2011 5:38 pm

I have been following Brink for a long time now and was planning to pick it up. I loved Castle Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory and played it religiously. Is Brink as bad as a lot of people say? Can it be saved?

Please tell me no and it can be saved. Pleaseeeee

Do what I did.

I bought it on a preorder, but I haven't opened the packaging yet.I just rented it today and have been playing it.After my five rental days are up,then I think I will know if I'm going to keep the game or not.If I don't like it,it's still in it's packaging, and GameStop won't hassle me about giving my money back.

For the record,I'm enjoying it thus far.

Rent it first maybe? Watch some gameplay videos. Look at people's various impressions and look at the pros and cons. Think if this is the kind
of game you would have fun with and understand what flaws and positives the game has.

This is a bit of a love it or hate it kind of game. I think it would be considered a cult or niche game since it's kind of an experimental hybrid game, lol.

I am enjoying it so far, but I may change my tune if there are no patches or DLC in the future....

I have been playing brink for the past two days and have alrready almost logged a day of gameplay. SO here are my 2 cents

1) There are alot of bugs that need to be fixed. First of all the online on consoles is unplayable at the moment super lag and rubberbanding but tis can be fixed with an update im assuming easily.
2) For the amount of time they spent on the game there is not a lot of content. Within 12 hours of gameplay i had already played through the campaign twice once on hard mode and leveled a characters fully.
3) I think it can be salvaged mainly by DLCs for maps and probably new weapons and clothes would be nice
4) if u have a core group of friends to play with it is still pretty fun just playing through the campaign and doing random different things is fun but they just need to add more stuff.

My recomendation is get it and see for yourself... i am having alot of fun with it so should u

The game is great on my end. I really dig the multi player. the story is kinda lame and hard to follow and I still don't know who the hell the non commander NPCs are and I beat both campaigns. Story doesn't matter though so the game play hold it up fine. This is a social MP focused game though so be aware. I see it having as much if not more time in my disc drive as any other multilayer game. It's more fun then a lot of games but about half of that is lost if don't play with friends.

Edit: I have only run into unplayable lag like twice,it all really depends on the host. I almost have a nerve to record my experience in a youtube video to prove some people just have [censored] connections.

Cheers for the replies guys. Im not too concerned about the Story or the Clothes just the core MP gameplay. Is it fun? Is it like RTCW?

when the lag is fixed, which is certainly an issue but with every fps I've ever played it's an issue early on. and you can get friends more easily into games it's a fantastic multiplayer game. I had some non-lag matches tonight and I fell in love with brink

I think it depends on what kind of shooter you're looking for. I can see why CoD fans may not like Brink, there's not a whole lot of idiocy to Brink, run and gun gameplay is limited to only a few points on each map, going off and 'doing your own thing' will usually end in you being killed quickly and a team of soldier classes running around shooting everything in sight just wont work.

While I've read some complaints about lag, I haven't experienced any in my 13 hours of game play, all of which have been online with all human players. Maybe I'm just lucky though.

Personally I'm having a blast with the game. Putting in 13 hours of gameplay in 2 days is rare for me unless a Mass Effect game is released. Are there improvements that could be made? Sure, I'd like more maps, more guns, more customization, larger team sizes, more abilities, and the random appearance of giant people eating panda bears, but to be fair I think I would want all of those in any online shooter.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a fantastic team based online shooter, Brink is definitely worth the money. If you want more of the same broken online deathmatch spawn camping like Call of Duty... well I guess play Call of Duty.

Brink is one of the most amazing game's I have ever played. Once you understand how to play it better, you'll have more fun. People just don't know how to adjust

I gotta go with what other are saying, rent it first. Thats what I did, mainly done stuff with just my friend so far haven't gotten into versus due to the current lag on the 360.

If you wanted my opinion... wait. In all its a great game and a breathe of fresh air, it just has some big flaws that can luckily be fixed through patches. Once those are solved, and if you liked team objective based shooters, then its a definite buy.

The game is GoooooD on pc! (have a decent pc though) yes there are kinks but they will be worked out. I was hoping to see less problems because of how long they delayed the game release. It's fun I give it an 8.

I'lll be playing on PC and i'm only into Team Based MP. I've never seen the attraction of lone-wolf run and gun. My gut feeling right now is to wait and see how the next few weeks go and then make a decision. Patches will hopefully fix most of the issues people are experiencing and hopefully the community sticks around to get the skills in place for some serious fun. Splash Damage does know what they are doing in this aspect. My only nagging concern is the limited maps. Does 8 maps feel small?
