Temple Questions

Post » Mon Mar 21, 2011 4:57 am

1) What is the Temple's view on Lorkhan?
2) What is the Temple's view on the Imperial Cult/Nine Divines?
3) What is the Temple's view on slavery?
4) What is the Temple's view on the monarch? (King Helseth or Llethan for example)
5) How many Archcanons are there? (Tholer Saryoni is one but Gavis Drin is Lord Archcanon, so there must be more Archcanons right?)
6) How is the relation between the Temple and the Ordinators?
7) How is the relation between the Temple and Great House Indoril?

8) What are the districts of Morrowind?

Any help answering these questions would be great.

Do you mean the Temple faction as a whole, or the Tribunal as a whole, or the Tribunal individually?

The Temple faction, not the gods.

I think I'm safe in answering 2 and 6. Note that these answers are assuming you mean during the events of Morrowind, seeing as I'm sure the Temple is gone at this point.

The Temple definitely does not like the Imperial Cult. I'm sure while they acknowledge the Nine Divine to a certain extent, they do not worship them because they worship the Tribunal. I'm sure someone could go more in depth with this than I can though.

The Temple and the Ordinators obviously have a great relationship. The Ordinators are part of the Temple.

4) They don't like Helseth much as he is to "Imperialized"

1) Vivec is on the side of Shor, though I doubt the Temple would really acknowledge his significance. They're more of a political party, trumping up the Tribunal and no one else. Heck, the 3 "good" daedra were, pretty much, removed and replaced with the Tribunal.
3) It's very likely they'll follow the dunmer tradition that slavery is A-Okay, as everyone else is lesser. Official stance, have your slave and beat it too!
4) It's an imperial institution, and not something their fond of (i.e. loathe). They tolerated Llethan, namely because he really didn't do anything, so it was easy to run things their way. Helseth is a guy with ambition and has the means to put his ambition into action. Look at what he did during the Tribunal; he was able to eliminate one of the Tribunal using the nerevarine after failing to assassinate the nerevarine!
7) Indoril is the most hardcoe Temple house there is, and I believe most of the ordinators came from house Indoril. Also, Indoril likely depends on the Temple, as they were a pretty weak house following the armistice between Vivec and Tiber Septim. Reason being, the heads of the house committed suicide right after it and haven't really recovered since. They're also extremely stagnant and stubbornly unchanging, which caused their decline, while Hlaalu became a real power player.

5 - It makes sense there would be an Archcanon in every District of Morrowind, not just on Vvardenfell. After all there's more than one Duke.

That's not a concrete answer. It's only logical. Tholer Saryoni may be the top ranking one, being located in Vivec city and all, but there would logically be more than one at any given time. At the very least there'd be multiple people at Master rank at any given time spread out throughout Morrowind's mainland. (Saryoni is at Patriarch, one level above Master. The other Masters may be called "Archcanon" of whatever District they're over, though. Similar to how there are multiple Archmages in the Mages' Guild but they all answer to THE Archmage in Cyrodill who in turn answers to the Imperial Battlemage.)

If there's not at least an Archcanon for every district, we might be able to assume that there is one for every Tribune. We had one in Vivec, one in Mournhold, so maybe there is also one in the inhabited areas of the Clockwork City.

You've got it backwards, Mournhold was where the Temple's administrative capital was. Otherwise, the capital of Morrowind would've been Vivec. Even though the Tribunal ruled evenly, Almalexia was the head of the church. Vivec was the Temple's extension on Vvardenfell.

Perhaps the Archcanons are all Patriarchs, as is the Lord Archcanon. The Lord Archcanon is so named because he is in Mournhold. The other Archcanons rule over different districs.

Which leads me to asks what the districts are?
Are they the same as Tamriel Rebuilt's maps, or divided by House; with Vvardenfell being held by four Houses (Indoril, Telvanni, Hlaalu and Redoran)?

We have no idea what the other districts are, we only have general ideas as to where each of the Great Houses have their holdings, and there's nothing saying that the districts are divided up according to which Great House controls the territory (which is how TR designates them I believe). Afterall, Vvardenfell is one district and it has three Great Houses on it.

The Temple and Hlaalu are clearly in a heated political battle for Vvardenfell, with Redoran focusing more on fending off attacks and expanding territory and the Telvanni pretty much doing the same while being their usual isolationist selves.

Of course Hlaalu eventually wins out in a big way, after the fact, but that's neither here nor there.

Back to that sub topic though I'm almost 100% certain the island of Vvardenfell is considered a holy Temple site - not necessarily under the jurisdiction of any single Great House.

The Pocket Guide does clearly imply that certain Districts either belong to or are dominated politically by certain Houses. Tear is supposed to be in Dres territory for instance, and Necrom is in Indoril territory if I recall.

Legally this was true until it was opened up for mining and colonization. Yet another reason why the conservative dunmer (ie those sympathetic to Dagoth Ur and the Commona Tong) hate Imperials. I believe only Molag Mar and Vivec (maybe Suran, maybe Ebonheart) were there before colonization. Discounting, perhaps Telvanni's archipelago. Also Molag Mar was probably the home of the Bouyant Armigers, so only them and Ordinators were allowed in.

Back to the point, though.

It was a Temple site and now Great Houses are moving in and staking a claim..but this is a unique situation. Most other Districts are firmly in the hands of a particular House. Leading up to the events of Morrowind, Hlaalu had been at a disadvantage but just before and during it gains massive amounts of power, whether or not the player character/Nerevarine joins or supports it. Vivec himself even says something along the lines of "House Hlaalu represents the future of the Dunmer people." At the same time he comments without obvious bias that Indoril and Dres represent the past. (If he foresaw the alliance of Hlaalu and Dres with his greatly diminished divine powers he didn't let on like it.)
