Don't use the game's quick save.

Follow each mod's readme instructions. Read the compatibility sections.

You obviously have DR5 in there since you are listing the horsecombatmaster.esm but have not listed all your mods as you said.

While you are at Tomalong's website, read up on setting up oblivion there and other guides.

If you don't have a complete list then no one is going to be able to help you find the conflicts.

Don't use the game's quick save.

Whats the problem with quick save? I use it all the time and never, since game out, had any problems. It must be some mods that broking saves.

Rebel, the easiest way, but longest, is to disable all unofficial plugins, backup saves and reload the game and try to save, do usual stuff, etc. If problems are fixed, then try to unplug each plugin at once and find which one is causing these bugs.

I am only repeating what other long-time vets have said about the game's saving system.

WOW :shocking: - hold on, pls: I used to use the quicksave A LOT (F5).

I've had a *fubeca* of problems with my games :flame: .... is this a well known issue? Coz I never heard of it and part of the problems could be due to this!

thx (i guess...) :bonk:

The issue with quicksaves is that they use the same file over and over. This can lead to corrupted saves. A corrupted save won't be loadable and you just have to load another saved game instead. If you crash when trying to do a quicksave, delete the quicksave.ess, quicksave.bak and quicksave.obse and quicksave.obse.bak files if you are running OBSE.

I have used quicksave from day one (four years ago?) and played for thousands of hours. I use quicksave and quickload continually. I have had issues with corrupted saves at times, but that's usually due to a mod problem somewhere.

Streamline uses the same save mechanism, but it at least has multiple quick save files, so it rotates them around a bit. I don't use Streamline, but some people prefer that approach.

Oh, and btw, the other issue with quicksave is that you are usually using quickload along with it, and the game doesn't completely flush its buffers when you load from within a game. This is actually true of loading any saved game, not just quicksaves. If you start to run into odd glitches, save your game ( a full save), and exit completely - all the way to the desktop. Then go back into the game and load your save and you should be fine - depending of course on what the issue was...

The quicksave function itself isn't really an issue, unless the game barfs while writing the file. It's the use of the quickLOAD that goes with it that starts the ball rolling on corrupted data.

I've spent the last 4 years on and off with this game and have overwritten countless save files, and even used quicksaves, and not once has any of the files ever gone sour unless the game crashed at a bad time.

Still, it's good advice to disable the routine autosaves and use a more intelligent autosave system, like Streamline, because there are situations where the game tries to save but dies because not everything is loaded completely when it was called.

The issue with quicksaves is that they use the same file over and over. This can lead to corrupted saves.

Actually not. Game backuping old quicksave by renaming it to quicksave.bak and creating a new file. Corrupted saves could be because of hardware malfunctions - buggy cheap ram, hdds bad sectors, dead caps on motherboard, overclocking, etc. And mods of course.

Yes its possible. Working without problems.
