Your favourite spells of all time

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 7:49 am

Your typical run-of-the-mill Fireball spell. (direct Fire Damage component, DoT Fire Damage component, both with a radius of about 5-10)

I had a spell called "Fire's Touch" that was comprised of two effects, the first being Fire Weakness and the second being Fire Damage. This was around the time of my "RIOT!!!!" spell, so I didn't fiddle with it too much. Does anyone know if the Weakness effect applies first and then applies the altered damage? It's been a while, I remember it being a no, as hitting an enemy beforehand with a Fire Weakness spell would cause my next Fire spell to hit my enemy like a truck, but any confirmation would be nice. I never saw any real increase in damage with the spell.

Moving on, the aforementioned "RIOT!!!!" spell was very fun to play around with. It consisted of:
  • Frenzy, Magnitude 25.
  • Rally, Magnitude 25.
  • IIRC, 10-20s Duration.
  • IIRC, Radius of 10-20.

My duties as Archmage were very taxing. I decided to relax in my spare time by sending my fellow guildmates into an UNEXTINGUISHABLE FROTHING RAGE OF SEETHING ANGER SIMILAR TO BUT NOT LIMITED TO A BURNING CAKE MADE OF MASKED MEXICAN WRESTLERS COVERED IN LIQUID GRIZZLY BEARS!

Aaaah, how I loved Runestone lecture time at the Arcane University. :flamethrower:

Can't beat a good Fireball for AoE, but as for touch and shoot, I'd definitely go for shock damage. It's just so cool...

Also loved http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Unique_Armor#Boots_of_Blinding_Speed. 200 speed and 100% blindness for loads of fun.

With the Bretons' 50% magic resistance, I was only half-blind when wearing those boots, so I could see where I was going.

I remember casting "Resist magic 100% for 2 sec" . Aaaah good times...
Oh and increasing the speed of those things in the editor.

This should be moved to the general discussion forum. I like paralyze.

Ah yes my bad. See my "hidden" purpouse with this thread was for people to list the spells they most loved so that the Dev's would go "aah.. Seems like levitation and
constant effect enchants were really appreciated aspects of the game... Let's put them back inn!!

I seem to remember making spells that summoned a group of several undead critters to my aid at once. That was fun.

I also had a constant effect summon spell enchanted onto something in Morrowind.

Huge damage radius nuclear-fireball spell was fun for angering entire towns at once.

I know!! Constant effect levitate for 6 points? , and Constant effect bound bow! .. Aaaah good times. Magic weapons bound to this world through your magical ring. Takes up a slot on your clothing list but hey, saves you a lot of bag weight.

Jump + Slowfall is always a favorite for me. Great way to travel around Vivec.

I miss it if I could get one spell from Morrowind it would probably be that, far more fun than levitate :)
The feeling then you jump and overshoot the city blocks in Vivec is priceless.

My favourite in Oblivion is probably command humanoid up to level 25 in 8 seconds. To see a goblin warlord kill the other goblins in the pack is also pretty priceless.
Unlike frenzy enemies usually continue to fight after the spell times out.

Feather, and grant strength 100 for 1 second.

So true.
I thrive off Feather spells and Feather enchanted rings and armour. I'm a chronic looter, so Feather is definitely my [censored].

My favorite spell was Assimilation, a range spell I would make tgat would absorb health, magicka and fatigue over time and would trap soul of the victim if killed during the duration.

My second favorite was Puppet Master.
I would combine control humanoid and animal into one and make it as strong as possible.

My third favorite was Shadow Hunter.
Combination of chameleon, detection and night eye.

These three were my signature spells. :D
Also, there was differences in them between Morrowind and Oblivion version, but can't remember all the details now since it's been a year and half since I played Oblivion and even longer since I played Morrowind.

I'd say my top 2 spells were the Chain Lightning (Nehrim version) and Destruction's End (Midas Magic)

Chain Lightning (Nehrim Version)- From the cast point, lightning shoots out in all directions, bouncing off walls, etc for several seconds.

Destruction's End (Midas Magic)- From the cast point, a giant sphere of light forms. The character gains a glow, draws their weapon, throw it, and pierces the sphere with it, shattering it. Anything still within the sphere is killed instantly.

My most used spell was Eternal Sleep (Drain Fatigue 300 points for 360 Seconds in 10 feet, Damage Fatigue 50 points for 360 Seconds in 10 feet)

Blade Barrier (my favorite)
Tiltowat (Good ol' Wizardry)
Icarian Flight (the humor aspect)
Haste
Invisibility
Contingency
Spell Sequencer
Time Stop
Simalacrum (sp? )
Glyph of Warding
Delayed Blast Fireball
edit: and Dtect Life

Force Grab from Force Unleashed.
I know its not exactly "magic."

But they made the best control scheme for telekinesis ever IMO.

Detect Life is my bread and butter.

i was always confused what does that spell do

Doesn't look like this has been answered....

You could MARK a point on the game map that you could be "RECALLED" to.

This was handy for looting dungeons, or zapping to a person who could remove a bounty before the guards got you, or just a good "holy [censored] I'm screwed...get me the hell out of here" spell.

Enemies Explode, aka Magic Nuke.

Throw it at someone with people nearby, watch as a cloud of fire takes them in and throws the corpses around.

And...

FINGER OF THE MOUNTAIN! HUZZAH!!!

How often did I wish after a night in a pub irl I could simply snap my fingers and be home like in Morrowind..

Levitation also awesome.

the replies ive seen so far arent very original..for me it would be Levitate because the Telvanni teases everyone who cant cast it by making it impossible to reach their private quarters without it :)
also most of the spell combinations seen http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Useful_Spells seem very interesting
ive tested quite a few (on zombies respectively, they are perfect for trying spells out on. Braindead and not too powerful in case things get out of hand)

Are we limited to Elder Scrolls? Because my favorite spell of all time is not in ES (I don't think).

Time Stop. I also liked Reverse Gravity, but Time Stop trumps it.

If I can't use D&D spells because of haters, then my next most favorite spell is Hurtmore. Yeah, from Dragon Warrior. For the NES. I'm *that* old.

Of course, the unspoken rule here is that the spell be from Elder Scrolls right? So... from Oblivion, it would have to be Water Walking. When I first saw that spell, I knew every character of mine had to have it. Because walking on water is so ridiculous that it must be done without question whenever the opportunity arises. No joke.
