Why no voip

Post » Sun Apr 03, 2011 3:01 pm

Not sure how it is on consoles but on PC this is a big issue that has been overlooked

All this talk about of Brink being a team player competitive game with voip made me really excited to play. And while I do enjoy the game I'm sorely disapointed that voip was handled so poorly (among other things). Seriously why isn't it enabled on default? It just doesn't make sense for this game one that revolves around team play and objectives not have this. I get irritated when I see someone who I want ammo/health or whatever from and not being able to say a word, or can't tell them that I'm on cd for my pips to give them anything because of this. I can write an essay describing all the things I can do to better help my team making us more cohesive and work better together if they could hear me talk through a mic.

Typing commands is stupid but I have resorted to it on occasion to get them to stop for a second and pursue the damn objective and it is not optimal at all.

Cleared out the enemies and want to tell the designated class its ok to move in and start the objective? Nope unless you type it you better hope he is around and figures it out although who knows what he is doing. And nope he can't respond and tell you his location or if he needs back up or anything.

Seriously SD fix this!

What the poster above said. It's basically your team pvssyr, which is by default off in Brink. SD claims the recorded contextual dialogue is efficient enough to get the job done, and I guess it was done to avoid trolls or pre-teen screechers. Still, never made sense as a design choice to me either, what with the mute fuction being in existence and all.

For consoles we have the option to switch from standard that has VOIP off to Advanced, Competitive, and Old Skool which all have VOIP on.

Almost all PC users would not use it anyway?. If you want comms get Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Mumble etc.

I just use the Xbox live party. It seats 8 and has cross game chat for when the host quits. I did not realize the no VOIP until about 5 hours into multi player.

That is fine and all in a competitive match but I don't want to fill in a new vent ip everytime I hop on a server. I was refering to public games I want to hop in and communicate with my team. Some servers have communities where the majority of people who reg it would use in game chat. It helps bring random people involved in the team tactics instead of going about their buisness. I want it to be enabled on default in servers.
