My Review - SD LOOK AT THIS

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 10:53 pm

Ok. Lemme start off with idc about the spelling errors or what not b.c im typing fast.

First off why did they have an early released on this game when it is not done. (I dont mean no where near done just not done)
I will start off with some pros and cons and some middle ground critiques then end this with a summary.
PROS
- S.M.A.R.T was well.. smart. A good jump, literally, from the basic shooters weve seen in the past decade.
- Array off different weapons and equipments.
- The different classes you can choose from (couldve added one or two more)
- Blending single and multiplayer as one was intuitive.
- Love the style of the game. syfi -ish with a little dirt and grit to it. clean yet disorderly

CONS
- Customization could have had a lot more unlockables. unlockables like your characters catch phrase after he dismembers your body. make the customization a little more personable. like " FOR THE RESISTANCE YOU PREPPY FU***!!!!." or " The security will shred all of the resisting underlings apart.. limb from limb"
- Melee weps
- More weps
- More abilities and make them harder to attain
- Upgrade the snipers.. they are non existent
- Maps could have been more detailed. Traps included. Different action buttons or switches to make it more interesting out on the battlefield.
- More achievements in game. For example " Be the player to complete all the objectives on your team." or " Capture all the enemy command post and hold them until you complete the mission" or " " Kill 10 people with in a 30 second time limit" so on and so forth
- WHY IS THERE NOT STAT SHEET AT THE END OF MATCHES???? people play multiplayer to compete with others whether they be enemies or friends people are always competing. Makes a challenge on top of a challenge to be the best... um...... ... . Brinker.
- More in depth lobby system would have been nice. Labeling our levels and favorite classes and weapons instead of just our names.
- Can stress the animations enough. People (or atleast i do) try to see what i can get my character to say. If i blow a hole through someones body with Chinzor i wanna hear " Mmmm... He doesn't look so good." or if detonate a cortex near someone (suicide bombing) i hear "YEIEYEIEYEEYEYEEEIIEEE FOR FREEDOM! -or FOR ORDER!

MIDDLE GROUND
- Skins for guns or skins for equipments
- more detailed all around
- much more challenges and campaign missions
- female characters
- maybe... just maybe you could give a certain class a long cooldown ablility (similar to self resurrection)

In the end SD shouldve took more time instead of worrying about the dollar signs. i wish the creators cared about this released as much as we all did. If some of our minds and thoughts were put together we couldve have made a great game instead of a decent game. personally as it stand today i give Brink a 8.5/10 and im being generous because its the first of its kind and nobody has ever seen this type of game ever. so everyone should be a little more understanding because the first attempt is usually the hardest. oh yeah and go SKYRIMMMMMM WOOO!!!!!!! .....take your time with that game or i will be devastated!!!!!

Though I won't go through and critique the entire review, there are a few things I wanted to point out.
1) The sniper rifles aren't supposed to be OHK or really that powerful at all. Any weight class can carry them, they have access to every scope...they're perfectly fine as is. The Rockstedi could use a slight damage buff to compensate for its low ROF I guess but other than that the sniper rifles/battle rifles are fine. Splash Damage has said for MONTHS that this game was not intended to be filled with snipers due to the inherently kill-based nature of that role.
2) More weapons? Really? There are a ton as is and for the most part they're balanced AND enjoyable to use. I wouldn't mind custom skins but both that and increases to the armory should take a backseat to things like maps and stability updates.
3) Stat sheets are ok as long as they only track team actions and not individual (no kills/deaths). As with sniper rifles, SD has stated that they want to stay away from providing individual stats to promote team play- a decision much of the community fully supports.
4) Melee weapons would be a fun gimmick I guess but in video games, unlike real life, guns almost always have the advantage. I doubt they would ever see much use.
5) With regard to more maps/challenges/etc...I guess that'll come in time, they certainly aren't lacking in maps compared to most other shooters or anything. Also, the challenges are fairly difficult (and thus replayable) once you hit the three star level. I, for one, certainly won't be bored of those anytime soon.

I agree with some of the points you made but overall I think you sold it a bit short. Most of the people who are being vocal about their dislike for the game either a) are angry about (FIXABLE) graphical stability/lag issues or B) never really understood the game to begin with and think the gameplay falls short because it can't be played like TDM. I'm still terrible at using the objective wheel, for that matter, and at the end of the day think people just need to give the game a bit of time and get used to it before they go and criticize it as mercilessly as they have been. SD has a history as a great PC developer and I would expect their support to be excellent as the game progresses.

EDITED 5/12 - Added a few details about challenges

No... I thought about it before I got drunk and after I had been drinking I rethought the idea that I had thought before I started drinking... [censored]
