OOO Switching

Post » Sun Apr 24, 2011 10:17 pm

I started a character using OOO Full version, and two things that are ticking me off right now are the slow leveling and having to practically be on top of something to hit it with a sword. If I switch to the lite version and disable the leveling changes and (I think?) Deadlier Combat, will I still be able to play my character or should I just start a new one?

I'd recommend handling the leveling rate with Progress, which gives you full control over it. OOO has c. x3 slower skills on default, so perhaps x2 would work better? (OOO comes with an x2 esp if you don't want to switch to Progress.)

Not sure what you mean with "having to practically be on top of something to hit it with a sword" but you should be fine switching from full to lite in an ongoing game.

It might just be me, but it seems like last time I played vanilla I could stand back a bit and still hit things. Now, it seems that I have to be within a foot or so of the target, like my fraking arm wont extend or something.

That's a result of OOO's incorporation of MOBS balancing. There isn't much you can do about that, short of editing all the weapon entries with the CS. You get used to it, I think. I actually prefer it now.

Man, it was so long ago I played vanilla so I can't remember how it was, but weapon reach is governed by OMOBS in OOO rather than by Deadly Combat, which ups weapon and creature damage globally. Alas, I'm no expert on OMOBS but I think it lowers the reach a bit all over, from daggers to claymores. So that would explain it. Not sure if you can skip OMOBS stats with OOO.

Wow, I had no idea OOO decreased the range of melee weapons.

I wonder if that's why boars have to be breathing down your neck to hit you. Or why trolls occasionally don't connect AT ALL even if they're grinding up against me (yet at other times, trolls have quite good range so it's clearly a bug)

Just checking in TES4Edit and OMOBS lowers:

Steel Dagger: 0.6 - 0.5
Steel Longsword 1.0 - 0.9
Steel Claymore 1.3 - 1.1

It's about the same changes for the other sets/weapons.

Meh thats not bad, I'll probably just leave it where it's at and adjust.

About the leveling thing...I'm using a leveling mod (Oblivion XP I think, maybe Realistic Leveling, I've tinkered with both). With my current setup, am I to understand that OOO slows down the leveling and the other mod just makes it so I can assign points to my attributes and skills? Or could I be multiplying my issues, like OOO making leveling 3x slower, and another mod making it 2x, for a total of 6x slower?

Leveling mods, such as Oblivion XP, Realistic Leveling, nGCD, don't affect the skill rates so they are compatible with plugins that do, such as Progress or the ones that come with OOO. I'd recommend sticking with OOO's default for a while. It seems slow compared to vanilla and especially with a Lvl 1 char, but as soon as your char starts killing stuff a lot it's not that much slower than vanilla because of the extra difficulty. Using vanilla rates means leveling too fast with OOO IMO.

Well first off, you should find out which one you are using  . They are very different from each other. With Oblivion XP OOO's leveling rates will not matter at all. You can adjust the rates in Oblivion XP's ini file to speed things up or slow them down, or adjust XP gains for individual actions. I think many people use Progress along with Realistic Leveling to adjust the rate exactly how they want it.

No, these are completely unrelated issues.

Well I switched to OOO Lite last night and removed the slower leveling. That was enjoyable. Only had time to do the beginning sewer area and Sideways Cave (which I never even knew was there, I always went straight or left. ) Ran into some gargoyles at the end, took about 20 arrows to kill the level 15 one. Luckily (or maybe an AI issue) it never figured out to fly a tad lower so it could get into the hall I was killing it from. Can't wait to try the new thieves guild settings.

You killed a GARGOYLE at level 1..?

Wouldn't it have used its rock healing?

OOO always puts a Gargoyle at that spot, he can't get to you so its not all that hard :)

Never saw it heal. I also hit it with a few fireballs. Woohoo.

I must admit I like the "boss fight" ending to the caves, ruins, etc. Looking back it did seem kinda strange that you fought all the way to the end of a dungeon just to find a measly bandit camp next to a decent chest. Now I feel like I'm earning the loot.
