Character heights

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 1:02 pm

I think that the dude int he background should be, say, strength level 40 or so out of 50.

Out of 50?

Attributes cap out at 50 now? News to me...

If he's 40 out of 50 then fine.

If he's 40 out of 100 then hell no. I have no desire to play as a mountain with legs...

And I do not wish to have to save before every time my strength or endurance go up just to make sure that I don't begin to look so.

The Age of Connan′s Character Creation System is pretty good at this aspect... They have a triangular slider to you to chose between fat, thin and muscular, and also a height slider...

Put it in Skyrim and i′m more than happy! :twirl:

First off, thank you to RaelBR for that vid! Now THAT'S what I call character body creation. Damn, I almost wanna try that game out now to make a sixy Stygian female. :hubbahubba: Great looking character models for both male and female.

Secondly, for everyone posting here, please read the OP carefully, as it clearly states the argument is concerning height difference between characters of the same race.

I fully agree that the issue of different heights within a reasonable range should be present for all races, per each race. This should also apply to body types, even though I won't mind too much if they keep the body type style from Oblivion.

This is what I hated about fable. Getting stronger made me fat. Like ungodly fat considering it was strength and not bacon I had just leveled up.

And a good thing too, we only have so much bacons

For the short time I played Fable, I learned that Peter Molyneux obviously has a warped perception of diet, seeing as he seems to think that vegetables have anti-calories in them that make you thinner. I'm a near-carnivore in real life and I'm not overweight.

What would be better is if we could just pick our body types and maybe there could be an in-game means of changing it at a later stage if we so choose.

50 isn't the cap, but it's the limit to how high you will keep leveling off skills, so I view it as a good assumption that it'll also be the point at which the game will stop altering the physical appearance of the character based on the level of his attributes.

Thank goodness...

For a minute I thought it'd mean at 100 strength I'd look like something similar to the Hulk, just less green.

But I still think choosing a body type would be better. One thing I've recently learned is that not everybody wants to play a well-toned, Olympic athelete shaped character, and although I personally am more inclined to choose to play thin-ish characters, I don't believe my preference should impact what other players can choose.

I'm willing to bet body types will factor in to how much muscle mass you actually obtain.

Idk....could do some awesome roleplay there. Because you could be green if you were an Orc. That would be fun, but hopefully you wouldn't have to have hair like Lou Ferrigno.

Strength Level? Where did you get that from? I am fairly sure the level 50 soft cap is character level and given how all leveling still appears to be skill based, I am wondering why you said that bit about no longer levels via skills...? The 50 soft cap just makes levels above 50 much slower to gain. We know there is 280 Perks and you get a perk each level and we it sounds like it's possible to cap all attributes/skills again. Overall there will be a limit of how far you can level in total and that'll probably be based off when you cap ALL 18 skills, so you'll never be able to get all 280 perks (without the use of the console anyway) on a single character.

The way I see it, is that each time you skill up, that skill up gives you a value towards your level up, the higher the level of the skill-up the larger the value you get. As you increase in level the amount you need to level up slowly increases until level 50 when that requirement will increase dramatically to slow down leveling. However you will still be able to fulfill those requirements to a degree but to get there you will need to get all your skills up as you'll almost certainly need high skill-up values to even make an impact.

I am not sure if this is how it works but this is just an example. Say at level 1, you need say 10 points to level up. Every time you level up a skill you get 1+floor*(skill level/10) points towards the level up. If you level say destruction from level 5 to 6 you get 1 point towards the next level, but if you level say illusion from say level 18 to 19, you get 2 points towards the next level or getting a skill from level 92 to 93 gets you 10 points. What happens is that at level 48 say 97 points and at level 49 you will need say 100 points, at level 50 it suddenly increases to 150 points, then at level 51 it goes to 200 points. It suddenly increases a lot faster and harder... by level 60 you'd need in excess of 1000 points. Now I am sure this isn't how it will work in Skyrim, but I am imagining how it will work won't be too far off from this, likely a system that is far simpler that I am capable of explaining.

*floor is like rounding but ALWAYS rounds down.

Can we please bear in mind that it is a wish of one player, maybe more, and not a confirmed feature? I still don't see how that would pan out if you were to want to play a big, fat warrior, therefore possibly needing the strength increase. Additionally, these kinds of features tend to be unpopular due to certain actions causing a perhaps unwanted change to a character's physique.

And to avoid the use of the word "mod", let's assume we're talking about this for all platforms and are taking into account that consoles can't be modded (at least not without serious consequences).

But I'd rather we just drop the subject. This topic was supposed to be about height and now we've started talking about girth instead.
