Do Druids exist? If not, is there an equivalent?

I'm working on a mod centered around the ability to live as a typical fantasy druid character (shapeshifting and all that). But do druids even exist in the Elder Scrolls universe? Maybe they're not called druids?

Bosmer, the shapeshifting is permanent, and you're talking about D&D druids, which for some stupid reason I didn't expect immediately.

TES does have witch covens, and witches are very close in practice to druids. The divides between all that stuff are mostly artificial, created by Gygax or Arneson.

Bosmer, but they very rarely shapeshift, and certainly not in the traditional D&D or WoW fashion. There's an event called the Wild Hunt where several Bosmer shapeshift into animals all at once to form a massive, destructive horde, though.

The Skaal come the closest, but don't expect them to be WoW druids (and judging by your avatar, you're a big warcraft druid fan). In fact, turning into another animal would be extremely sacrilegious to them, as humans are to stay humans and animals are to stay animals. They can call forth bears and wolves though, and have a deep connection with "Oneness." However, they only live in Solstheim, no where else.

Other than the Skaal, there's the coven witches, like the ones of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Ettiene_of_Glenmoril_Wyrd (witch covens are female only, and I stress this). And here's a list from http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Witch_Covens#The_Glenmoril_Witches You should note that the coven witches are not really druids, but highly powerful witches, who often deal with daedra, and have power equaling and being greater than that of the archmages of the Mages Guild. In fact, the only reason why some witch covens seem "nature-like" is that they worship Hiricine (god of the hunt), and likely Namira (think goth nature goddess, who loves gross, dark, and ugly things from nature. Unnatural stuff is bad)

Bosmer can shapeshift, but when they do, it's permanent, and they end up being nothing more than ravenous beasts of weird forms. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Lutemoth/munsters/Valenwood/kiergo.jpg

I think that applies to all the post-DnD magic-user taxa. Traditionally, there's really no discernible difference between a wizard and sorcerer. The divide is etymological in origin, wizard being of Germanic origin while sorcerer is Romantic.

There are druids in one sense; the wise, old reclusive Breton sages. http://www.imperial-library.info/content/daggerfall-sage http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-feyfolken http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-final-lesson good stories you can draw inspiration from.
They aren't D&D druids, but they sort of fit the historical role.

This is some great info. Regarding the Breton sages, I notice that in ES4, so-called "hedge wizards" that fight among bandits are always Bretons. Maybe there's a connection there.

The Skaal sound very interesting. They look great, and I notice there's a "shaman" among them called Korst Wind-eye. And in Bloodmoon he'll give you a quest to retrieve the "totem of claw and fang" and reward you with a spell to summon a wolf. Or you can keep it from the Skaal to please Hircine, and Hircine will reward you with stronger attacks as a werewolf.

This is pretty much perfect. I sort of envisioned my own "druid" stuff hatching from Nordic history anyway. I already have Hircine playing a major role in my mod as the one who grants you shapeshifting powers, and Kynareth as the other deity granting powers. She's closely associated with Nature, and I've found through some reading that she has a Nordic aspect named Kyne.

This is a big help. Thanks!

There are some items with "Druid" in it's name, also Bretons in Arena was described as "descedents from the Druids of Galen".
But I think "Druid" here must be understanded in more general sense than fantasy character stereotype.

Yeah, the "druid" is probably a pagan pre-Roman British priest (or inpired by them, fantasy and all) rather than a vegetarian shape-shifter.

Actually probably a very good anology, considering the comparisons between Bretony/Britain and Cyrodiil/Rome.

There is a mod called Path of the Druid on nexas for PC , However i created a Bosmer for my PS3 ,
He killed a Khajit in the Leyawiin mages guild to obtain his Robe and enchant it with more magicka , of course you could obtain it on the PC at the testing hall , but thats bloody cheating.
He's got a camp set up on an island on on the Cyrodiil / Valenwood border.
The Lore may not mention it specifically , but ay i create my own adventures when it comes to the Elder scrolls.
