The Skyrim Baby Contest

How exactly does one make fun of someone with the name Dovakhiin? I mean by the time the kid is at the age where bullying starts I don't see many kids knowing the meaning behind it and really it's not a name that lends itself to childish remarks, it just sounds like a unique name. I'd love to hear some insults that would possibly be thrown at the kid cause I can't think of any besides the relationship with the game and being dragon born, but again I doubt it will be known to kids as to what it is referencing.

Very good point.

Just an update: We had it confirmed by a hospital that her due date is indeed November 11th. My wife kept thinking I was joking about the actuality of the contest, and the date needing to be 11/11/11. She is quite on board it seems, hehe.

For the love of Akatosh don't do it man. Name the kid something else, and then photoshop Dovahkiin onto the Birth Certificate. They aren't gonna ask for a live, handed to them in person, copy of the birth certificate you know.

Hey, if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying.

Idk why everyone keeps mentioning the name so much, since it isn't even part of the challenge. The original blog exact text describes the date as a challenge, and the idea for naming the child Dovakhiin isn't even a part of it, just a crazy idea added on to that by the devs afterward.

If I were you, focus on the DOB and don't worry about the name. Tell Bethesda and if your child is born on 11/11/11, you're all set. The name would be pretty interesting, but since there's no idea for a reward for that from the devs, why bother?

Whatever the case, good luck!

DO IT. Give him/her a normal middle name so that he can go by it in case of trouble (but really, who gets teased for their names these days?).

o/
I use my middle name, too. No problem whatsoever.

But only name your kid Dovahkiin if it's a boy. Doesn't work for a girl at all, IMO.

Yeah, think of the child... it'll get free bethesda games forever! It'll be happy with the deal.

Don't do it... How's the kid going to feel when he/she finds out that he/she was just a tool so you could get free games?

I'm really upset that Bethesda would have a promotion like this...

You're lucky my wife is due a month prior, or we would have done it ourselves. And since our first was a Cesarean, we would have schedule for 1200am 11/11/11.

If the kid is actually born on 11/11, you should hire a symphony to chant the Dragonborn chorus:

Dragonborn Dragonborn
By his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
And the fiercest foes rout
When they hear triumph's shout
Dragonborn for your blessing we pray

And the scrolls have fortold
Of black wings in the cold
That when brothers wage war come unfurled
Alduin bane of kings
Ancient shadow unbound
With a hunger to swallow the world

Or, even better, do it in Dragon. ;)

I'd do it! You'll be a legend on these forums and in the whole TES fan community. And I actually think that Dovahkiin is a really nice name. There are far worse names!

A similar contest for the release of Oblivion would have been funny. Name your kid "The Hero of Kvatch" and get free Bethesda games for life!

Change it? Why? Would you really deprive the kid of the chance to stand up and roar "DRAGONBORN!" when the teacher gives up getting it right?

If only my name: Jacob meant something other than "supplanter". Oh, and was harder to pronounce! :P I guess I could start spelling my name like I do in TES: Jaekob lol

I said original post. It was either the original twitter or Beth Blog, but I read it weeks ago, and the only mention of the name challenge was an add-on to the actual "contest". I realize based on more recent posts Bethesda seems to have made the name actually incorporated as well, because I'm sure they realize that there are truly many fans out there who are going to do the birth date contest already. My point was about the announcement they made, and I think it's very unfair for them to change it later even though it was originally just the date. But hey, it's not my contest, so I don't make the rules.
