Complexity of Dungeons

Post » Sat Apr 30, 2011 5:50 am

As we all know the dungeons in Skyrim are all being hand made by a team this time around. With this said I hope Dungeons are far deeper and more complex. My biggest hope in the world would be that each dungeon is as deep and varied as a Zelda Temple but I wont get my hopes up for that. My main problem with dungeons in Oblivion other then that they all looked the same was that they were short and dident really give much of a sense of acomplishment by going through them and reaching the end. The dungeons had no life to them at all and it just felt like a pretty much empty space with some random baddies walking around it. Im hoping at the very least that these places are given a feeling of life, a sense of a past, a sense of mystery etc. Dungeons are where we spend a good amount of time in and if they feel like a half hearted effort to fill space I would be very upset.

OOOH, god dude, it's Dwemer, not Dwelmer
>.<

Lol, I think they already said something about the dungeons having puzzles to complete and more classical tabletop-style elements. I hope so.

Not to rain on your parade Paul but its Dwemer not Dwelmer. Also how the fact that there are Dwemer ruins doesent quite automaticly make the dungeons better its just another theme. Its about the contents of the Dungeons that I'm worried about, its if they are interesting and hopefully a few hour experience each.

Some complex dungeons would be nice, but.... I'm going through Shivering Isles for the first time (finally grabbed a copy of the GotY edition of OB), and many of those dungeons are just interminably long.

You see the red quest marker all the way across the map, so you know your goal is in another zone.... and then you finally get to the door, and - crap, another red arrow, all the way across the map, yet another zone. And then again. :banghead:

Yeah, a big dungeon's nice once in awhile. But I'd rather not spend 1+ hours in most of 'em.

...of course, I'm probably extra annoyed at it right now, because I'm CLANGing my way through dungeons full of Knights of Order :meh: (after clanging my way through hordes of Dark Seducers......)

Well it IS the realm of madness. I hope the low level dungeons are simple and the high level ones are really deep and creative.

well. come on! dwe(l)mer dungeons are full of mystery, ruins of the past, of amazing technologys, always with somenthing new to find, a mystery to discover, i always enter a dwe(l)mer dungeon thinking about how they did all that, what happened to them, what i will find in this dungeon, it could be anything, but it could be somenthing ... undescribable, im not talking about a item, but information, certainly, the dwemer misterys are the segund most interesting topic on TES lore, the first for me is the daedric princes, the creation of nirm , mundus and stuff..

The main problem with that aids in my point, they were not interesting enough to warrant how long they were. I want some that are yes long but have enough depth and interesting features to them so that its an enjoyable experiance throughout. Much like a Zelda Temple.

My biggest hope is that there won't be any like the Water Temple :banghead:
