TES isn't Earth, and its literature is all we have. When all literature says the same thing its pretty safe to believe that its true.

That tells you that Daedra exist, Aedra exist, Aedra can defeat Daedra and that there is something called the Heart of Lorkhan which can have power stolen from it. It doesn't tell you how and when Daedra came into existence, or if they were there at the beginning of time.

Good, er, god, why bother bringing up lore at all if you're going to ignore it? The developers didn't make all this stuff up to be false.

Okay, the main problem is this:

Mortals were around at the creation of the Mundus. The creation myths all stem from their memories of that time. For example, every mortal remembers Lorkhan. Some view him differently, but, even though he's dead to the world and cannot interact and all that good stuff, everyone remembers.

There's not a lot of room for new religions in that sense.

All I'm saying is that just because everyone believes something doesn't mean it's true and just because noone believes something doesn't mean it's false. There is evidence for a lot of stuff in TES to be true, but that doesn't mean people can't ever get things wrong.
