Skyrim Banks & Bank Robberies?

Hmm.

I'm more of a fan of rich Skyrim folks keeping their valuables close at hand, like in chests and in their own treasure troves. A central place to haul all their wealth while sounding like a fun activity for the thieving set, is tactically a nightmare as evidenced above.

Dragon + local bank + destruction and raided holdings = Failed Raven Rock situational.

All one dragon need do is burn it down, and gobble up the gold, and that economic structure has gone from a mercantile system based on gold, mead, and other things back to pigs, farming, and raiding. Bankrupt a town, and the town will resort to all manner of things to stay afloat, and not all of them are good. If the dragon returns or worse, breeds more and attacks en force, well, there you are. Those who thieve, now are no longer the only ones, as now your entire town may be forced to take what they want.

Part of the difficulty of robbing a bank could be that it was built under ground to prevent dragons from doing this.
Or even into the side of a mountain.

Increased protection on banks could be because of dragon attacks, not because of thieves. But it would unintentionally
make it more difficult for thieves... which would intentionally make it more fun to rob :D.

Or hell, at least make keeps in the cities have a good amount of gold... I think the US government needs to take a note
or two from the cities in oblivion, because they seemed to be able to function with 0 gold in a treasury :P

They wouldn't have safety deposit boxes in town banks, they are just there for monetary transactions.

If they have a dragon attacking their town, I guarantee they won't be giving a damn about the money in the bank. The town will pretty much be gone anyway. Even without the banks in the game, the town will be gone. I'm not convinced your issue is valid to worry about.

I wouldn't be caught dead robbing a bank. Gold is dead weight.. I'd rather break into a place that is rumored to have priceless artifacts.
There are things more valuable than money, isn't stealing either.. they appear and disapear with new owners all the time.
