then you must have cringed when todd insinuated the itunes interface was a good model for Skyrims UI.

A little bit.

Ya know, it's quotes like these that make me really question whether I'm a fan of Bethesda and the Elderscrolls, or simply Morrowind. First of all, you ARE making new games in the series. In fact, ALL of your games have been linearly chronological, which is highly suggestive of a series. So when you PRETEND to make a "new" game each time, what you're really saying is that you are not responsible for scrapping good game mechanics in favor of untried and untested ones which are TERRIBLE (ex. ridiculous level scaling)

Graphics are important: "This determines if someone is interested in the game or not." This leads me to believe that they don't trust their fans, and don't trust themselves to release a game which will be popular with their fans. They need to make a shiny new toy to attract people to replace all the old fans they alienate.

DLCs: Wow. We would rather nickel and dime players over trivial BS than release actual new game content. I've about had it with this company. "Too long for the players to wait?" More like takes to long for you to get svckers money. The whole point of an expansion is that you get it sooner than you would a whole new game. I can wait 2 years for an expansion, because I'm going to wait 4 years for the next game in the series. Paying $5 for trivial content that should have shipped for the game 2 months later is not going to appease me.

Bethesda used to CARE about making good games. Now all they seem to care about is making money. They might continue to manufacture entertaining games on accident, but as long as they get paid I doubt they care. I really expect the quality of Elder Scrolls games to deteriorate with this kind of thinking.

Please don't come up with conspiracies, Bethie releases a TES game every 4/5 years, it shows how much heart they put into each edition of the series, I for one can only praise them for their approach, of course they want money, so do we all, but ultimately they care and are passionate about what they do, and yes, Morrowind was also my fav game alongside Redguard.

It's been proven a widely excepted theory that when a person does work for intrinsic value only he/she is more creative and productive at that work. when that same subject starts getting paid for the same work he/she starts to be less creative, and less productive.

Now that bethesda employees are making the big bucks their work attitude may have changed, but it seems to me that Todd Howard is still doing this for the joy of it.

Yeah, there are some things I don't like the sound of, but overall I like many of the new proposed features for Skyrim. When you hear Todd talk about the world, he really does seem like he loves it.

Though that very much reminds me of how the Simpsons is now.

Hahaha, I still watch the classic seasons (1-9). They are SO much better.

if you haven't noticed there's lots of shows that are like this.

Yes, I have, but I think the Simpsons is the best example (not including shows that were always like that).

I think the Simpsons changed largely because Family guy also started around that time. It was then cancelled but returned due to the clamor for it. Simpsons uses a lot more cutaway jokes similar to Family Guy now. And to be somewhat more on topic, I did cringe when they showed the new skill UI. Once again, Darnified UI did it better imo. I'd rather see all the info at once in more detail than see a picture of the Mage in the background when I am looking at magic skills.

That would be dissappointing :( I hope the "no hud" feature means no quest compass either.

The compass is in the middle of the top of the screen. I think it was GI that said that.

@Dragonbone What do you mean you were "on the money about the release date reasoning"?

In reality if they released DLC in the form of say fully functional spears everyone on these forums would be ecstatic. Quality over quantity, and there really are some DLC like Spears or perhaps more factions that could take the place of full fledged expansions that people would love and pay for (myself included).

I don't really see a big loss if they stop making expansions if the trade off is more and better DLC. My opinion on the matter.

I do, I see a huge loss because Expansion packs like The Shivering Isles add so much more to a game and it seperates it from the competition. Even Dragon Age tried an expansion pack and failed although that's because they didn't set it up right.

I'm surprised people are more focused on what Pete said about DLC rather than what he said about not wanting players to feel lost. He said something along the lines of making sure the player always knows where to go even after going off the beaten path for hours at a time. It's safe to say the compass and quest markers will work exactly the same as Oblivion.

i was hoping this means a very diverse terrain: tundras, mountains, volcanoes . . . that with now unlimited draw distance would always make you aware of where you are in skyrim just by looking in the distance

Just that it was a convenient date because it's the same whether you use the dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy format.

They said they'd increased the draw distance, but I don't recall any official source saying it was "unlimited". Do you have a source?

it was in that interview, id say about a week ago or less . . . i cant remember the name

im not sure i read it there but im 90% sure i read it somewhere

EDIT: i think i just assumed it after reading this

"We sort of enter it by knowing that we have to draw it all, that we're going to be having a view distance that is 'all the way', and we don't want to limit the player.

Okay, just arriving : no more expansions of Shivering Isles size ? :( That is disappointing... The reason I love Morrowind is Tribunal and Bloodmoon. Especially Tribunal.

Given the quality of those, waiting was rewarding more than anything else. That's really too bad.

And the Game...the SERIES has an F load of its own influences and things to bring to frutition in the next game why do you need to derive influence from other games....

Yeah I heard....and im like...we waited 5 years for Skyrim, Oblivion had some side tracks to knaw on while waiting, what kind of crap excuse is that.

This makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. How can something be an inspiration for itself? It contradicts the very notion of inspiration.

And by the way, Pete Hines nowhere said that they wont make a Shivering Isles type of expansion. People are misunderstanding a conversation that had a particular context.
