Bugs Glitches and Invisible Bots!

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:07 pm

Seriously? Invisible bots on a co-op campaign? Really.........and a team is expected to get through that how? Loss of all audio, nicely done? Something as simple as click and holding the scroll bar on the server list is broken. Not being a programmer, these things seem more like programming 101 failures, the most basic of things that every game has.......

I don't get? I could understand latency issues, as that's a bit of a moving target until servers are filling and those are found, I can even understand, to a degree, bot AI things and maybe some graphical improvements. But a lot of what Im seeing wrong are generic issues gone awry that shouldn't be on release.

Okay, well, having one and three-quarter years of programming classes, I can tell you you're very very very wrong. NEVER say "X patch is simple" or "Y bug is a quick fix" unless you can fix it yourself. It's damn hard to look through hundreds of thousands of millions of words to find the one making the mistake.

Yes, said bugs are bad. Yes, they should have been fixed long ago. But No, they are not simple basic programming 101 failures. Not even close.

So a scroll bar, something I've seen in pretty much 99.9999% of programs, can't be programmed correctly is acceptable, seriously?
I"m talking about the simple day-to-day things you find in every game or program out there not working.....
Never said a word about quit patches or fixes im referring to releasing a game with bugs that should never have been there in the first place ........feel free to reread.

No, of course that's not acceptable.

But it's not easy in the least. The bug could be anything from a misplaced letter, to a glitch in the game engine, which could take months to fix.

True, but isn't there a software search engine that helps look for that one word causing the mistake. Kind of like the way a auto grammer check or spell check works. I'm not a programmer, but this just seems logical.

No, if you accidentally spell "Scrollbar" as "Scfollbar", it could take forever to find it.

And sometimes it's not just simple spelling mistakes. Sometimes, a piece of code is blocking another piece of code. If both pieces are very important, you can't easily do anything without breaking the game.

@KidEx: That's a known glitch. Splash Damage hasn't said anything about it, but I'm hoping they'll fix it. I won't say anything further, lest more and more people learn how to exploit it.
