Dangerous forest/Quick sand?

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 12:10 am

Whats up guys, I'm pretty sure if this is not in the game by now most likely it wont be. But it never hurts to try. Also I do know that a place where there is swamps and water will be a better suited location for quicksand. But it would be a really cool machanic to see. But to be honest I've always wondered why I have to only fear actual enemies instead of enemies and the environments. There could be poisonous trees or plants that poisens you if you brush by it. Also maybe plants similar to the ones in fallout new vegas that actually attack the character. Just wanted to see what you guys thought about this and if you have any ideas too feel free to comment.

This idea might have merit if Skyrim wouldn't be a snowy mountainside, which isn't known for its dangerous flora.

There is no quicksand in Skyrim.

Even though there are these tundra marshes that I assume you're thinking of, that's nothing like quicksand.
Tundra marshes is just watery ground/grass that is partly frozen. You can sink a little but it's not quicksand...
I know because I live in somewhat of a "tundra marsh" myself. It looks pretty much like this: http://www.unep-wcmc.org/habitats/freshwater/I/TundraWetland2.jpg

Poisonous, yeah! That's something I'd like to see. A few rare plants being poisonous. Perhaps those with sharp thorns.

Well there were plants in Oblivion that would attack you if you stepped to close to them. So who knows what they'll throw in to Skyrim. And I would like to see plants like that again

there was a plant in Oblivion that could hurt you. I don't remember what it was called, but if you got too close to it it would attack you. I think it was only in the Plains of Oblivion though.

Oh yeah I remember that one, but I was referring more to the actual forest and the wilderness. Because I dont think there would be oblivion gates in skyrim.

The whole game is not covered in snow, actually I've seen a concept art that had a huge green plain similar to something you would see in new zealand. Also there were scenes in the trailer that had no snow at all.

Might be a better idea for a game set in Black Marsh.

And ROUS

^ YES!!! Although it's somewhat of a standard for the fantasy RPG, I think Skyrim could make them right.
Rodents of Unusual Size FTW! Of course they should only reside in the Bog of Despair and not some old lady's basemant/cache.

Sinking into deep snow wouldn't be dumb, imagine if you're climbing up a steep hill, and the snow has accumulated on the ground more than you know, then all of a sudden *pop* and you're in down to your chest and need to somehow climb out (if you stop struggling you will just slip down into the snow and drown in it unless you dig your way out in less than 1 and a half minute. and since snow isn't very trusty when you're trying to climb out of a hole and tends to just crumble in your hands this can be pretty tricky) this has happened to me, in a snowstorm where i couldn't see more than 1 meter ahead of my face, and i was wearing summer clothes, and as i was struggling to get out of the hole my pants dropped and i was there in my underpants :o however lucky for me i'm as close to a "nord" as you can get in real life, i have natural cold resistance and i quite frankly just like colder temperatures, so even in the freezing -10°C or -15°C then wearing summer clothes, i was quite all right.

Yea I think we get a quick look at a tundra/marsh area in the trailer with the pc readying his bow towards the wolf.

These are good ideas. Maybe they could adapt them to Skyrim's bedrock nature. But having different kinds of soils, affecting the speed and agility at which you move, would be a nice touch.

That sounds pretty good, but you got to remember they are not only geared towards us as an audience but also newcomers snd cadual players too. So if you get too detailed it might come back to nite them. However if they can find a simplified way to add it to the engine then we could let the modders take care of the rest.

Wow, sounds like you had an adventure of your own, glad you made it out unharmed. But this makes a lot of sense vs my quicksand idea. I hope this gets to the devs, and I hope its not too late.

While I could see the potential for a different region, I can't see it being in Skyrim, and either way I would hate having the chance of running into quicksand. You get a lot done, everything's going well for you--and then you step into the sand and sink to your death... :violin: No, no I would not like it...

Quick sand? We're not in Elsywer or Sentinel! As for dangerous terrain, we're in the coldest region of Tamriel, with the most mountains. Look at Canada, Alaska, Norway, Sweden, and Finland for dangerous places.

Yep, hypothermia, frostbite, cliffs, thin ice, avalanches, and the most feared and worst of all - mosquito plague season!!! :flamethrower: <- actually every June I could really do with one of these...

Ok thats cool but I doubt there are going to be avalanches, hypothermia, or any of that so if its not in the game its almost like a wasted setting.
