Achievement Unlocked: How? Is it Even Possible?

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 4:33 pm

So While I was playing oblivion today, I was thinking: "It would be cool if there was an achievement for exploring all 101% of skyrim". Now of course, this would be for the xbox and the ps3 only (maybe the pc if they get achievements/awards). Once you discovered all of skyrim, you would get a mysterious note that would tell you to meet a person alone in the woods. Once you where there they would tell you that you have something awaiting for you in X location. Once you went to the location you would find a chest hidden somewhere in the area. You would have to look hard to find it , but once you gotten it; You could take one item out of the chest.

Either alot Money, or you could get set of items that fit a certain role, such as the Mage, Thief, and the Warrior.

(lets say your a thief and you use a dagger, light armor, agility and sneak most of the time, well if you chose the thief set, then in return you would get items that would benefit your "stealth" skills. If you choose warrior or mage, It would do the same thing, but give you more warrior/mage type items. This would use the radient Story to choose what you should get. These items would not be leveled and would only be attainable through this.)

Thoughts? This could be improved, so give me your suggestions and I will edit this.

What in-game reason would there be for that? Who'd be interested in you exploring all of Skyrim and reward you for it?

Nay imo. I'd rather have another quest that makes sense.

I say... Maybe it's a good idea. But the problem is, it'd be hard to explore 100% of the game, and once you did, you'd likely be COMPLETELY done with it... So what's the point really? Even if you weren't bored of Skyrim, you'd likely want to start a new character, thus rendering the award null.

The achievement part sounds cool though. Except, it'd still be ridiculously hard, and drive me insane.

Explore all of it? Doubt it. I may have explored almost all of Morrowind, but I never came much closer than 50% of Oblivion. Then again that was probably because everything was the same, and there was no need to explore everything...

I put Yay, only if this achievement spread across all of the accounts along with the award.
The closest possible thing I could elaborate would be with Mass Effect's you beat the game you get like 50000 of each element...
Something like that.

I still don't see why anyone would walk up to a random person just because that person has explored a lot, an then reward said person with unique items.

- How would they know you explored all of Skyrim
- Where did they get such rare, expensive items? They surely must be rich and thus probably influencal - which means they'd need to be an already known NPC.
- Why would they give you anything?

On the other hand, instead of having silly achivements, this could be made a quest. Someone could pay you (with normal amounts of money or a medium artifact, nothing too fancy) for creating an accurate map of Skyrim.

It would be kind of neat. Something like this or 100% completion is something people shoot for as an extra goal. If they put a reward in for it it wouldn't really need to make any sense.

It would be cool. I especially like the variable chest idea, where your characte gets what would benefit them (like the [src="http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Artifacts#Oghma_Infinium"]Oghma Infinium/url] from Oblivion, but it automaticly chooses).
I would like variable rewards for other things also, not just that (but that's a different topic that I won't dwell on).

If you had explored 101% of Skyrim, how did you miss the secret chest, hmm?

Though, in all seriousness, yeah it's very much possible. There were achievements in Fallout 3 and New Vegas for finding all the locations in certain areas. It's not exactly hard to do, it just takes time and patience.

What would surprise me is a person with a 100% Sacred 2 map... that would be insane.

So basically, you want an award for exploring 100% of the game? I think an achievement is enough. I mean, would it be the best reward in game, better than something you get at the end of the MQ? I don't see this happening, seems kind of weird to me.

Nay here's why- I don't value achievements like a lot of people do. For some reason everyone loves them, but I do not. I guess I am just an old school gamer type of player!

Thats just what we need, a rediculously long and pointless task for gamerscore that means nothing (with the exception of people with 100,000+ which indicates they have no life) and at the end you get mediocre rewards which people will grind for just to have them at level 1.

It may be because I only play games on my PC now, but I find the whole concept of achievements somewhat silly. Then again I can see how they could be useful once you've pretty much done everything you can do. Normally at that stage I'd install some mods but console gamers don't have that option.

you already get rewarded for quests

exploring and other feats could provide external rewards like achievement points but they shouldnt be mixed with the actual game

I'm no fan of achievements. They're a cheap and overused way to *try* to add some fun to a game.

No,lame JRPG's can do this sort of nonsense but achievements should be used to get you to do things you might not other wise do. Like joining guilds or certain side quests(stuff the average gamer would skip). It seems far to tedious to force you to see everything in one go. Your second point is moot because dlc equipment would null and void post game equipment. The 101% thing is more for games with a bit less substance like grand theft auto and the like, they are not bad games its just you can finish them quickly and not have much else to do but grind or shoot pigeons :gun: (I should know I have the key to the city from rock star in my fallout lunch box)

It's more of a COD thing rather than "lame JRPGs"

But I don't want to see a message popping to tell me "Imma Rich Man:You've collected 100.000 Gold !" either.

If guards come dancing to tell me of my achievement with a big smile on the face,I can give a second thought though =D :intergalactic:

Nay.

Exploring is something that you do casually and take your time with to enjoy. Making achievements on it objectifies it, thus defeating the purpose of exploration at all. It's not supposed to be a task, it's supposed to be something pleasant and leisurely.

Well Oblivion's map didn't work in anyway where this could be feasible, however if Skyrim has a map style similar to Morrowind where a fully detailed map of the land was revealed as you explored and traveled then perhaps, however I don't think Xbox style Achievements really make sense ingame. I'd rather a Quest where you can be enlisted to help someone map the entirety of Skyrim (along with every cave/ruin/landmark etc.) by exploring the land throughout the game and then show him at the end for something nice (such as an artifact)
