Bad FPS with mods

Post » Fri May 20, 2011 2:55 pm

Hi all, I've come back to playing after a while playing Vanilla and taking some time off, and I've added quite a few mods. I'm seeing some serious FPS issues at times, seemingly random but usually right when I need to fight something!

Here's my mods (BOSS sorted list)

Oblivion.esm
Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esm
Mart's Monster Mod.esm
Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp
UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp
Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp
DLCShiveringIsles.esp

[GFX]_Initial_Glow-creatures.esp
SaddleBag.esp
NoLoad.esp
BrotherhoodRenewed - Oblivion XP Patch.esp
MMM30_Goblin_Assassin_Fix.esp
Enchanting_and_Spellmaking-6322.esp

Any ideas what could be causing this? Right now I'm doing the Warlock's Luck quest that comes with Midas Magic and getting huge FPS lags in the undead dungeon...makes killing warlocks a pain.

Try removing "Willful Resistance", see if that helps. Skycaptain made a fixed version, and tejon may have incorporated those fixes, but I don't know...

I going to assume You are using a really old version of MMM I since you are using the 3.0 MMM Goblin Fix

And I assume you are using OOO 1.33 Lite has well..I would advise to upgrade to OOO 1.34beta5 (Full Only ) and MMM 3.7b3 since there are many fixes and improvements in both of those version

Increased Spawn Rates is going to increase the amount of npc and creatures you encounter causing a fps hit during combat, so think about using a different spawn rate plugin ..else update your mods..

UOP and UOMP have been updated with Supplemental Release's..

Suggest using Oblivion Stutter Remover (OSR) to improve overall framerate.

Also search for Combat FPS Optimizer on nexus.

I als assume you need to use only one of the following:
[GFX]_Initial_Glow-all.esp
[GFX]_Initial_Glow-self.esp
[GFX]_Initial_Glow-creatures.esp

presumably, the all version...

Also suggest adding a bashed Patch from Wrye Bash. This (UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp) is incorporated in Wrye Bash as a tweak - suggest using that.

This is not really needed per other experts here:
Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp

BrotherhoodRenewed - Oblivion XP Patch.esp

While not really a problem, it's also useless to you unless you've got A Brotherhood Renewed installed, which I don't see in your list.

Monster Mod with Increased Spawn Rates is a FPS Killer for me at least

try MMM Vanilla Spawn or Reduced , Reduced (1 1 2 or 1 1 1)

Also Oblivion XP if you set a low delay this could increase scripting beyond 2%

I don't get OBXP but that's another topic I guess I like Using spells and attacking things

and gaining levels that way everything you do affects your progression which is nice in

So how do I install OOO 1.34? Just drop the ESP files and the Texture / Meshes folders into my data directory?

Ok, got the OOO and MMM updated, mods suggested deactivated, only thing I didn't do is Bash. Still getting the FPS issues. Been resolving it by bringing up the game menu and tabbing out for a while.

Did you get OSR and Combat FPS Optimizer as I suggested? Those mods directly affect the FPS.

You haven't mentioned what FPS range you get, and your system specs to begin with... know that modded Oblivion gets a seriosu FPS hit as compared to vanilla, especially if you have QTP3 etc. installed.

Just curious, what's your FPS average outside (wilderness) and within the interior?

hmm 30fps sounds pretty good considering your setup. your pc is pretty outdated. i have an i7 and a 5850 and im struggling to keep 30fps with FCOM and QTP3 and all the LOD crap. mods can be pretty harsh.

Especially your graphic card.
QTP3 = Qarl's Texture Pack 3. Check http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/obliviontextureoverhaul.html. The original QTP3 can almost kill your machine if you have graphic card with insufficient VRAM.

Quarl's Texture Pack 3, it was/is the highest resolution texture overhaul. Very, very taxing because it eats so much video memory. Getting to 40fps+ is difficult in Oblivion because of it's poor threaded support and very, extraordinarily bad shadowing system. Turn off shadows and see if that changes things. If so, you might consider Streamline 3.1(b?) which can dynamically increase/decrease Gfx settings, and just apply it to shadows to adjust them for decent fps.

According to Moore's Law, a computer system becomes outdated after only 18 months. Yours is now a couple of generations behind.

30 fps is more than enough for fluid gameplay provided you set up all the OSR values correctly, i only get around 20-30 fps, but it feels like 35-45 due to OSR. I would suggest that you install streamline and set up streamsight for ugrid values of 10 or 12.
