Faction Based Gameplay

So my initial impressions with Brink where all but disastrous, but I've since grown to enjoy the game. But one thing has been bugging me, it's something I doubt will ever be done with this game but I'd like to see done in the next.

I think that the faction a player is playing as should affect their selection of weapons and abilities. This doesn't necessarily have to be stuck on a permanent basis, the weapons and abilities would be customizable in the same way appearance is, a separate tree for each faction. It absolutely bothered me that the resistance has access to the same type and amount of weapons that ark security does. To me it seems that the resistance should be based more on guerrilla warfare while the security is backed by superior firepower.

My Ideas:

Weapons: Different models of weapons for each faction with different ups and downs, for instance resistance weapons could be more scattershot but do more damage. Alternatively have a completely different model that is a copy of it's counterpart for the other faction. That way you at least get more differentiation than a half-assed retexture.

Classes and Abilities: I feel that the two sides should have counterparted classes similar to my idea for weapons. The would still be the same four basic archetypes just different abilities. For example Resistance engineers could have a higher focus on booby-traps and ad-hoc armour buffs. Whereas their medics could have more focus on supply tranfusion, displaying and additional bar above allies for their supplies.

Or if that'd make playing on a different team every other match too difficult you could always just change the general ability tree and the abilities of the whole faction. Security could have a general ability to increase ammo capacity and resistance have an ability to restock ammo from dead enemies. The resistance could also have an ability somehow enabling hit-and-run tactics but security have abilities to track down enemies.

All in all I'd just like to see the two different factions adopting different combat styles in-game.
