Why the Remembrance Day release?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 3:55 pm

Dedicated to what? Freedom? Justice? AAAAHAHAHAHHAHAH

Don't know what it's dedicated to in other countries, but here in the states it's dedicated to the brave servicemen and women who laid their lives down in one of the worst wars in recorded in history so that others may live in peace, prosperity and (yes) freedom. Don't mock actual heroes because the way people treat that selfless sacrifice these days.

But back to the topic at hand. The reason for the release date? Dunno, I would say that it's in time for the holiday sales.

I think the main reason is Skyrim is a unique game and Beth wants it done in a unique way. The Friday release date is unique because usually games are released on a Tuesday. Also who is going to forget 11-11-11. That date sticks out like a sore thumb.

I can only really think of 1 reason. Advertising. Nobody will forget a huge game released on Remembrance Day.

11-11-11 <--- It looks cool and appears only once every 100 years and that's all that's too it.

They are releasing that day because they could do that cool little twirly thing in the promo's where the word S K Y R I M turns sideways and reads 11 11 11.

It's a simultaneous worldwide launch.

Ooooh I am very excited to hear this, I'm sick of having to wait days to start games that other people are already playing! I was hoping that was the reason for the release date, would you mind pointing me towards where this was announced? Thanks

Personally, I don't think anyone'll notice beyond the "Hey, it's all ONES! Nifty!" 11:11:11 thing.

(This thread reminds me of the "OMG! They're releasing WoW:Cataclysm on Pearl Harbor Day! The shame!" threads that a couple people dropped on the WoW forums last November. In the end, no one really noticed...)

Honestly would hope that the maturity levels here are different than the ones that I heard of about WoW players (then again could just have been fellow FFxi players trying to knock down WoW a peg or two, who knows?) Seems most the general reaction is that it's in time for the holiday releases. Me I wouldn't have realized that connection (work in the service industry long enough and you stop caring about holidays) except my friend pointed it out (he also added it was veteran's day and how cool that was).

I personally don't celebrate the holiday. Not because I'm one of those Westboro nuts or anything like that. I'm a former National Guard soldier, I honor our fallen heroes every day as part of a normal routine. It's just how I do things.

Pete was asked on twitter about the Friday release since Tuesday is the standard day in the US. His reply regarding the Friday release not being standard was..."Not in the US. That's a standard release day in Europe though, so it made a simultaneous WW release day possible."

Uhhhg, another one of these threads. They picked it:

1. Because 11.11.11 looks cool, and is easy to remember.

2. It's a Friday.

Its being released on that day because it is a day to be remembered for 3 reasons:
1. Remeberance Day
2. 11.11.11
3. The best game ever will be released

Ahh thank you for clarifying, that would explain why I didn't notice it in any of the interviews. Because our usual release day is Friday I feared we'd have to wait a full week after the US release, so this is great news :celebration:

Don't mock? Yes. I mock at those fools who give their lives for the greed of a few, while the rest of the people has to wake up at 6 AM to work every day. If you think that ANY actual government is "freedom", you're *very* naive. There's no freedom anywhere, there's only more or less subtlely in our actual modern slavery system, with people forced and desperately willing to be asleep in order for not to think about it. And those "heroes" were and are willing to fight for this to continue?

Yes, I think I'll definitely continue mocking them. Thanks.

Who is a fool but a fool who calls another foolish? (In case you are wondering, yes you have just been insulted) In the minds of those brave men and women they died not for the government (and we continue to see how little the government really matters every day) but for their friends, their family, their neighbors, their loved ones, and this is continues to be true and of the ones who don't die but still make sacrifices.

And yes, even for people just like you.

People who miss the birth and growing up of their children, people who lose their jobs because the demands of being overseas, those who go months without hearing anything from home or knowing anything, people who come back baring the scars of war (both physical and non-physical).

If you can't see it for the heroism that it is and feel small in the face of it, than the foolish ones are not they and I have nothing but pity for you.

As for the other points, I will not dispute them. You do have a certain point to it, but you too pessimistic by far.

It's purely a cool day to release a game on. It was mere coincidence that Skyrim would be done in November.

What country do you live in? Here it's either veterans day or armistice day (only rarely used)

In Britain, veteran's day is called remembrance day

Well, here it's just a day. And the only reason is that the date looks great and can be made by turning SK-YR-IM letters, don't forget this awesome thing

EDIT: LOL the wordfilter ftw

EDIT2: Looked up in Wikipedia, 11.11 is the Independence day in Poland. Congrats, neighbours

AHAHAHAHHAHAHHA, ah, the youth is marvelous, isn't it?

Loooong ago I thought exactly like you. But time and life will teach you otherwise. And that no one, and I repeat, NO-ONE does nothing for others without gaining something themselves. And that no one cares a **** for the others except for "their tribe" (family/friends).

It's just the cursed human nature. The one you'll have to face sooner or later. Too fool of me that I did it later.

I'm just wondering why that day, and why a Friday? I mean, it'll let people get the weekend to play it non-stop, but stores will only have it for 1 day before the weekend... Anyways. :D

I know what will happen here. They won't have it in the stores on Friday where I live and I'll go nuts over the weekend and end up buying it on Steam when I really want the hard copy with the box and the map and manual... Oo
