Daedra and Artifacts

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 10:55 pm

We've seen many artifacts in the past games, and hopefully in Skyrim we'll see many more... most artifacts are though of course assosiated with a daedric prince... and since they're returning random quests this gives me an idea: Should artifacts dissapear once their charge is used up, they are damaged beyond repair, after a time limit, etc... I would find this quite cool, and its very lore-wise correct, but only if there were more than one quest for each prince, perhaps a few changes to each time made with radient story, this would allow us too do as many quests to each prince and therefor allow us to regain the artifact. But on the other hand this would make it impossible for Bethesda to place artifacts anywhere, and therefor this might turn out bad... so perhaps if they only aplied this to daedric artifacts it'd work.

Please tell me what you think, also feel free to correct me on anything you think I got wrong... and post anything artifact or daeda related in this thread.

1) Would probably take some time to make several quests for each daedra prince.
2) Would probably become a little boring to do these quests over and over.
3) I want my artifacts to stay as my artifacts, not disappear after the charge is used up. This would mean there would be no way to recharge enchments either. In the end I think this would get very tedious and un-rewarding.

I like the idea. I mean, it's not like you can take Mehrunes Razor to the local blacksmith and say "polish this up for me, chief, she's gettin a little dull." Even if he said he could actually effect the arcane surface, I imagine he would be seized by the desire to turn the blade on you and keep it for himself.

In fact, the weapons shouldn't actually degrade, at all. They might have a "health" meter, as you said, but they wouldn't lose effectiveness, they would just disappear.

However, although the weapons are said to not remain with any one champion, I imagine they stick around for years, and even at 40 hours of gameplay, your probably not much more than a year and a half in game.

I find having to recharge enchanted items tedious, much less losing them altogether! No.

I would however like to see more than one quest per Daedric prince - maybe have a mid-game artifact, and an end-game artifact you could earn from each one.

Also, both Sheogorath and Jyggalag should have shrines imo.

Yep... but it would also make sure you wouldn't just complete the same quest every time...

That's why I said it should only be there if radient AI can make actual changes to the quests (mayor changes)...

Well I also said I'd only want it if you can get 'em back... and (I didn't say this but) they'd have to be much more powerfull, and have larger charges.

Pretty much this. I'd rather they focus on one really cool quest for each daedric prince (I'm thinking Sheogorath's quest, for example) than make five not-so-unique and dull ones. Plus, after fighting the tournament of ten bloods, I really felt that I had earned my Goldbrand as a reward, and that I deserved to keep and use it for as long as I wanted to - and not have it disappear after the enchantment is gone (which would be after the first two bandits, if you play the game at a high difficulty).

So - interesting idea, but no.

@NeverComingBack:

Well I still like Daedra quests to be done once only. They can be managed by Radiant Story to make them slightly different from each game, but I still want only one quest per prince. The reason is because these are so... "powerful" and unique quests that should be different from any other quest. And making them only available once builds up a certain tension and "powerful"-feeling to it, rather than these more random quests that you can do over and over again (even though they would still be managed by Radiant Story).

And for artifacts, I would still want my exact artifacts to stay that way all the time. It gives me a feeling that I've earned them. If I were to lose them, I'd go crazy :P

That's how I see all this.

Aww... this makes me so sad... I made a char specificly for completing that damn quest... spent hours in character creation... all just to lose all my data in a total meltdown of my system... at level 19...
btw: did anyone get the reference in the titel discription?

Am I the only one whom did not understand a word of that first post?

By the way, there are NO random quests. Stop putting words in Todd Howard's mouth. Radiant Story is NOT random quests.

I'd say no, they should not. When I find ANY weapon, I want to keep it until I decide I don't want it anymore, I don't want to lose it any sooner, unless I must give it up to complete a quest (I mean things like Umbra in Oblivion where you had to choose to give it to Clavicus Vile and get the original promised reward or keep the sword.) Losing them due to running out of charges (Weapon charges should be removed from the game anyway I'd say, or at the very least, return to recharging over time like in Morrowind.) or broken, and especially due to time since you have no way to stop that from happening would just be EXTREMELY annoying, the fact that artifacts have been known to migrate between users serves to explain how they can appear across multiple games even though each game may be set far away from the last time, but it should remain as that, I don't need it to be reflected during the game.

Besides, Bethesda needs to focus on making sure each Daedric quest is interesting, not letting us repeat them, I don't want to repeat a boring quest.

Well I also said I'd only want it if you can get 'em back... and (I didn't say this but) they'd have to be much more powerfull, and have larger charges.

I'd rather weapon charges go away entirely, I don't take any pleasure out of having my sword have limited ammunition and needing to reload it every so often, I want to deal with ammunition, I'll stick to ranged weapons.

I'm 95% sure it was like this, and therefor was not just to migrate between games.", but it should remain as that, I don't need it to be reflected during the game.

Ok... I see people really hate this idea, but there is one Artifact that gotta have a time limit, The Skeleton Key... I'd say make it a special key that unlocks all doors execpt the ones who "requirre a key" but only allow you to have it for a day...

I'd rather have it have limited number of uses than "yours for a day". Makes you think twice each time you use it.
