Tolkein Wood Elves vs. Elder Scrolls Wood Elves

You forget that they were studying metaphysics for ways to REJECT the current world. :D

Nope.

They were very interested in the metaphysics of the Universe - i.e., how to transcend the mortal realm and reach the "divine".

I simplified for rocketmike's benefit.

i suppose so... But saying they were scientists gives the wrong idea. They were actually scientifically riggorous debunkers. A scientist looks for truth-- The dwemer were looking to prove falsehood. Totally different ideologies.

Fair enough... but they had a methodology of observation and deduction that is similar to science. Essentially the same in everything except goal.

Mages are sometimes portrayed in a scientific cast in TES, as well.

The Dwemer were an agnostic race of scientists and mechanists. They were very interested in the metaphysics of the Universe - i.e., how to transcend the mortal realm and reach the "divine". They were styled in http://www.imperial-library.info/dwemer/dwemer-image.jpgafter the ancient Persians. They were as tall as Dunmer are.

Nope. All Gone.

Its a mystery where they really went, but the lore forum argues at least 3 possible scenarios.

1) They merged their spiritual essences to produce the Numidium.
2) They spontaneously combusted, with a mythical removal of their divine substance resulting from a mistake...
3) They were all summarily displaced to some as of yet undiscovered outer realm.

#1 and #2 being the most popular.

Wow I have to say out of the official races even though a number of the mod ones are really cool and have a sufficient backstory that makes them lore friendly the dwemer are the coolest.
