I like the concept of how the AI scales to whats going on in the match, but in practice its just not working.

Perhaps make it to where you can change the bot settings? Example...

Movement:
--------------------------

Objective Play:
--------------------------

Cover Fire:
--------------------------

Defensive Play:
--------------------------

this game is 100x better without bots, or maybe 1-2 bots. They in my opinion do a very good job when it is not up to them to act like a team. Join games that are fully populated, and if people leave then one bot will not hurt your experience. I played all tuesday almost against and with all bots, trying to learn the game and had a terrible time really and sort of wrote the game off (didn't even play wed.). Finally I changed my setting to public and have been having and absolute blast all day long. Game is amazing with acting thinking humans!!!

Really, it's flawed design to have the player pick up all the slack. Even on easy your team is completely brain dead and the enemy can still manage to show up where they need to and shoot you. On hard, sure, your guys can actually make it to the objective, but they're still cannon fodder in comparison.

Really, I expect that on hard, on normal, I expect to see both bot teams completely even and I'm making the difference. On easy, the friendly bots should be walking me through.

Instead, SD has set it so that friendly AI is always worse than enemy AI. Even with todays patch, my guys are still worthless for the most part but can get things done with a bit of help from me. They're better, but not on the same level as the enemy yet.

And that "get more aggressive" crap is just that, crap.

not hold back at all.... is that like trying to do "Be more objective 3"? D: i can't even get to the first objective before getting mowed down - and neither can my AI counterparts :(

okay so i have some good news for all the complaints about bots.

Richard Ham was just on a live stream from Machinima and he got asked a few questions, one of the big ones was about bots.
Basically what he said is:
-the bots are not stupid
-the hold back and wait for you to do the objective, even say for example a bot soldier is at the objective he will not complete it in the first few minutes.
-they get more intelligent and aggressive as the time ticks down and they realise your aren't going to get the object done
-they act more intelligent when there is more humans on the opposite team.

he also said splashdamage will change their settings to full out if thats what community wants so the bots wont hold back at all.

hopefully this will calm the bot haters for now :)

after doing all the challenges to 2* and the objective one to 3* i can say they arent stupid. they just hold back, as said. they have revived me many times. they also follow you up when you climb up alternative routes. its what they do when you are respawning that makes you scratch your head. they usually stand in the middle section looking clueless. if you run near them they will follow you and look after you while you do the objectives.

easy...

 • first of all run to the bomb and plant it. you should easily be able to hold them off until it blows.
 • quick change to engineer and repair the thing you need to repair.
 • next you hack the objective. this can be tricky but you can hack it around the corner. i can stand in the com post when i do it.
 • nip up the side of the com post and you can get to the trap door easily without being killed.
 • grab and run back out the door with the briefcase, turn left and get back up the easy route near the entrance bit
 • last bit should be easy with a few mins to spare.

obviously positions change with easy * but when you know the routes its really easy. you should be able to do with minutes to spare. remember that climbing stuff seems to make you harder to hit for the AI.

I have finished the campaign and leveled out at 20 but it was a pain in the a$$. I started the game on normal and then realized the enemy bots were overpowered and my friendlies were useless. So i put the difficulty level on easy and it made no difference. Match after match i got my a$$ handed to me resulting in losses cuz my team would not help me go after the main objectives. Also there are times were me and my team (bots) would be defending the main objectives cutting the enemy down with the quickness and then when the last minute approaches my team would run off leaving me to defend by myself. In the end i would lose cuz the enemy bots would swarm on me like roaches. Even though i do like this game it is nothing like the devs portrayed it to be. So far the public matches (do to severe lag) and solo campaign (do to idiot bots) svck and the only thing keeping me playing this game is co-op on campaign, which is really fun. I'm on the 360 and hope they fix this soon so i can play the game the way it was meant to be played.

That sounds like the enemy AI in a nutshell.

People don't have issues with the enemy AI, it is the [censored] friendly AI who can't do anything.

If he was talking about the friendly AI he was blatantly lying.

Well the bots are certainly not intelligent. The only - more or less - intelligent AI I've seen in a game is the one used in F.E.A.R.
I loved those bots because they were taking cover and try to outsmart you to kill you from behind at times.

Dunno if they actually hold back. But they do wait for you if you're a medic, which often makes more sense than joining the respawn wave. One could argue that this makes them more intelligent than most players in this regard.

They don't get more intelligent, they just use (or exploit) more game-mechanics. This makes them really similar to the Counter-Strike Source bots. On easy settings, they're plain stupid. On hardest settings they soundwh-re you across the map and will headshot you once you step around the corner.
Same goes for the BRINK bots. I wonder if Silent Running will make them as stupid as CSS bots when you walk in that game.

Maybe their amazing reactions can be slowed a bit in turn for being smarter...

This would definately make sense. It's just unnatural how fast they turn around and down you after you snuck up on them and open fire.
Using a silencer leaves them completely clueless, though, it seems.
