I got lost in the dungeoun...how do you manage to finish the quest and come out? I looked in the map but it is more hassle than help.

The biggest help is to buy a recall spell before you leave town. Then you can leave an anchor at the entrance to teleport back to.

But since you can't do that at the moment, a helpful device is the micromap (the blob of yellow pixels in the top left corner of the dungeon map screen). This is an extremely zoomed out representation of the dungeon layout. The red pixel is your general location, the exit is the blue one. Each pixel covers a large area, but once you overlap, you're pretty close to the exit.

Yeah those DF dungeons are awesome. I generally take time to explore the entire dungeon when I am questing, unless I am short on time. The best thing here is to have a good memory. I have most of Castle Necromoghan memorized due to being in it so often! Aside from that, find your way out and pick up the recall spell and anchor at the dungeon entrance when you first enter a dungeon.

The micro-map is a top-down look only. You might seem close to the exit when using it, but be many levels away. :banghead:

If you have the cheat codes enabled you can get a free ride to the dungeon entrance by:
1.Save
2.Restore that save
3.Hit F11 :cake:

I prefer setting my teleport anchors near the quest-giver, not at the dungeon entrance. This gives me a lot more time to complete quests, since I know that once I have achieved the object of the quest, I can instantly return to gain my reward. One just has to be careful not to set those anchors in no-no areas. :grad:

In daggerfall you always get lost in dungeon! :)

my advice is to learn using the map (the best video game map i have ever seen) and of course, as Jormugrand said, use teleportation spell

I have to say, I can thank Daggerfall for helping me hone my sense of direction.

Tis true. But hopefully, once you're in the same block as the exit, you'll begin to recognize the area enough to find it.

Although, it has always amused me that the dungeon exit isn't always on the top level (closest to the surface). I often enter a dungeon, whose entrance is just a small hill on flat land, only to find that there are several levels above me!

I prefer setting my teleport anchors near the quest-giver, not at the dungeon entrance.

Me too, actually. Much easier that way, as I not only don't have to find my way out of the dungeon, I also don't have to run across town to my questgiver.

Daggerfall randomly generated dungeons were so fun to explore. Never the same :)

Uh oh.

I don't know if there's any cheat or edit utility to help, but I think you have to record (on paper or somewhere out of the game) who gave you the quest. I always do because there are so many cities and places inside the provinces, and I don't always remember where I got the quest from. If it's for a guild, I think you must return to the same guild where you got the quest (in the city where you got it).

If you don't return to the quest giver, you'll get to keep and sell all the loot, of course, but you won't get credit for it. If it was for a guild, I think you lose a couple rep points with that guild, which may or may not be a big deal. If you've already done a couple things for them, it might not be that big a deal (lowering your rep with them, say, from 7 to 5), but I think it might be a problem if it was the first one you did and you didn't have any rep points in the bank (going from 0 to -2).

If you *really* need to get the credit and it wasn't just a quest for some merchant or innkeeper, I think you'll need to reload to a save from before you accepted the quest. Others might be able to help you (I hope so!).

It is strange. Quest log usually mentions who gave you the quest and where to find him. You can cast spells as a thief, provided you have enough magicka. Recall is quite expensive and its cost in spell points is determined by your Mysticism skill. Recall is commonly sold spell in Mages guilds.

Check your quest log. If the quest-giver isn't mentioned there, I don't know what to tell you. And yes, thieves can use magic also.

I once got royally lost in a single dungeon for almost a week and a half. Just wander around till you find familiar territory.

Also, try the breadcrumb method I used to use: Just drop a single gold/item at an intersection (I can't remember if gold created an item graphic or not), with a bias towards the path you are coming from, then you should be able to find your way back, or at least the ways you haven't explored.

And the dungeon map isn't 2d, I think you can rotate it around in 3D space.

The map can be viewed top-down or from south facing north. Both are 3D though. And no, dropping gold leaves nothing.

I must've been dropping random ingredients then.

Also, can't you make sections of the dungeon flash or something by clicking on them in the map screen, giving you a bit of a glimpse as to what's behind it?

I was discussing the "micro-map," not the main dungeon map.

If you click on any section of the map in map-view, it will flash on and off so you can see what is behind it.

You can also just zoom in to see under things.
