You first must realize, both of them are opposites of each other, Battlespire is a action based fpsrpg, think a more deep version of Quake. Redguard is a third person action adventure, in the same vein as Tomb Raider. They're completely different.

It depends on what you're looking for in a game, describe what genre you like more. Then you'll have your answer!

If you're looking for a deeper-than-average FPS with RPG elements, good interactivity (as well as dialogue choices unusual and some C&C, though VERY limited) and obviously first person gameplay, look no further than Battlespire. If you like it, you might want to take a look at Cybermage (criminally underrated) and Strife (masterpiece) as well. But don't expect Daggerfall 2, else you'll be massively disappointed (like I was at the time). I've always failed to understand why people were calling Battlespire crap: if taken with the right expections (I'll repeat this again: it's not Daggerfall's sequel and shouldn't be evaluated as such), it can become a very enjoyable game.

If you're looking for a Tomb Raider-like game (though MUCH better and not nearly as action-based) with a good story, a great deal of interactivity and a decent amount of nonlinearity (quite unusual for a third person action/adventure), then you might want to try Redguard. If you like it, I'd suggest Outcast (which, in my personal opinion, is even better) and maybe Omikron: The Nomad Soul (the latter has got an exceptional atmosphere and potentially great gameplay, narrowed down a bit by some severe faults).

Both, anyway, are very good games and should be played, especially if you're a TES fan. There might be some difficulties in finding them, however, especially Battlespire You might want to hunt them on ebay (sometimes copies of Redguard pop up and they're usually quite cheap, but I've never been able to buy Battlespire).

I'd go with Redguard, I found it to be more fun than Battlespire. Very Indiana-Jones/Tomb Raider ish, and besides the sword fighting is just so much fun.

No idea why but I can't stand those sword fights. I never finished my escape from the prison after the encounter with the governor.

Anyhow, I recommend you to play Battlespire it's a good and unusual elderscrolls game.
