MINIMAP in ARENA!?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:47 pm

In frustration, I was just mashing some keys (shift+something I think) and it opened up a minimap in the top left corner of my screen. I never knew! I'll keep trying to figure out the combo but if anyone already knows I'd appreciate it if you could tell me. The manual never mentioned any such minimap.

EDIT:

Okay this seems really strange but it's happening every time so it must be the cause. It seems that if you "hit" or "damage" a wall enough times with a target-at-distance magic spell it brings this minimap up - I was originally testing to see how much I could cast without crashing the game. I've tried a variety of spells and it doesn't seem to work with Wanderlight (which does no damage) or Firestorm (which is area effect). It seems to work best with cheap/quick magic like Fire Dart (with which I usually have to spam my power bar empty twice for the minimap to show up.

Here's another screenshot (2nd level of Dagoth Ur)

The game will ALWAYS crash (for me at least) shortly after the map comes up.

I can actually see myself (purple dot) moving as I move. Was this maybe an intended feature that was removed? Or a cheat-code (since the map is fully explored) that was never properly implemented?

EDIT - It works in towns too and citizens show up as orange/yellow dots...

This is very interesting, ... Too bad I don't have a high level magical character to test this with.

The result of too much Arena and not enough practice.

Pretty cool. I might try this myself some time and see what I get.

How does someone find something new in a game over ten years old?

Oh, right. Shooting at a wall overandover. :D

Well, if you check my other thread (Quickcasting crashes Arena)... I was having problems with my game crashing when I used rapid CTRL+C to fire bursts of Fire Darts for quick-kills. In frustration - and also to see if it would crash my game if I was not shooting at a target - I just shot tons of Fire Darts off into the distance and this popped up.

I have yet to test whether or a Bow & Arrow works.

You wouldn't mind giving your saved game to us, would you? I wouldn't mind playing around with this.

Very nice find. I wonder if it's a poorly implemented "feature" or a bug...

From what I hear, 1.07 is just 1.06 with some added voice audio, no difference otherwise.

It has an 'cutscene' when you beat the game as well.

1.06 has a cutscene where Uriel thanks you and a guard says he's proud of you (which is my favorite bit of bad writing ever). Is there more in 1.07?

In 1.07 the ending is basically completely different. Instead of showing the Staff of Chaos spinning abound they show you walk up to an altar where I suppose the seal is - along with Jagar Tharn's 'life stone' and then it turns, shows the same bit where Jagar Tharn melts, then shows JUST Uriel appear. The artwork for Uriel is different and there is no guard.
