For the quest where you have to kill the members of the DB themselves, Vincente Valtiere and that argonian guy both have quests, Darkness Eternal and The Runaway Shadowscale.
On topic: The mages guild, being able to make custom spells and enchantments is priceless.
Telvanni. Same basic benefits as the Mages Guild, minus the warping, with sides of learning spells free of charge, and being able to collect much greater rewards!
Well, gameplay-wise, the Thieve's Guild, followed closely by the Mage's Guild (in Oblivion, anyway.) Lore-wise, it's hard to say which would be the best.. The Fighter's Guild would be good at protecting people and rooting out dungeons, the Mages' Guild at furthering the study of magic, The Thieve's Guild at giving wealth to the poor, etc, and the Dark Brotherhood, at...er...killing people.
I liked the Dark Brotherhood, but it wasn't as beneficial of some of the others. But it was exciting and I even thought the Dead Drops were fun. And I actually enjoyed the Fighters Guild and it does have a decent perk at the end. That guildmaster chest in chorrol, were depending on what orders you give Azzan (or the Dark-Elf guy if you chose him) depends on what kind of items appear in the chest. The Thieves Guild is good at establishing and re-establishing wealth, and I always liked going into Hammer and Tongs, going invisible and stealing a thing or two. The Mages Guild has definately got the advantage of spells, enchanting altars and spellmaking altars. Whenever I make a new character I always join the Fighters Guild and the Mages Guild straight away, just for the discount in buying spells and getting good armour - for a low level - from the Fighters Guild. But I guess I would probably say....
Well, for Morrowind, I liked the Hlaluu house quests. That Imperial moron in Vivec that used to tell me to call him "uncle" ... *shudders* was the only downside. lol
In Oblivion, my loyalties are (and always will be) to the Dark Brotherhood. There was just so much put intot he storyline there and just listening to some of the conversations that they had with each other in the beginning sent chills down my spine! The worst part of that quest line was [Spoiler follows. Highlight to read the rest of this sentence]

when I discovered Lucien Lachances dead, mutilated body hanging from the ceiling of Applewatch Farmhouse. I cried.
The mages guild woulds be my second choice but that's because you didn't always need your magic for it. For an Altmer, I rarely ever used my magic. I should've but I don't care.
