[REQ] Modular Balconies

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 3:50 am

If you know my houses you know that I have never released a house that doesn't have a balcony or a deck on it*. Because to me outdoor space really makes a home and balconies take advantage of great views.

In Oblivion we have to piece together and construct our balconies from a limited number of items, which can also affect FPS. So my idea to throw out there for a modeller looking for something to do is a resource of 'one piece' balconies. A selection of premade balconies that modders can just place on the wall of a house, plonk a door and voila...a balcony.

A selection of different sizes and styles would really make a useful resource and add somehing special to people's castles, houses, inns...etc...

I have compiled some pictures of types of balconies below....

I don't need one for Pell's Gate, would be nice though. But basically I am throwing out an idea for what could be a very good resource. :)

*Okay so I released one in Lakewood Village without a balcony but that travesty has been corrected.

A number of those are going to cause problems if they're functional ones. Since the door to the balcony is between an interior cell and the exterior, it has to be a load door, and non-transparent. It could be louvered, or translucent like a regular window, but it can't be animated to swing open. So #5 could only be an ornament for building exteriors, and some of the others may be doubtful, too.

Which all makes me think that a resource of louvered and windowed (but not transparent) doors would be needed to go along with these, and would be useful in their own right.

I suspect that the appeal of balconies and decks for houses is just because of that need to have separate interior and exterior. The deck/balcony is the only connecting area for the two spaces.

Yes it would definitely have to use loading doors to conect the interior to the exterior balony. So you are right that #5 would be purely for looks. They would add some class and style to the exteriors of buildings. But the others would be perfect with just the vanilla loading doors I would think. That said some louvered doors would look good anyway. :)

That is awesome! Perfect, thank you! In fact I am thinking that will work perfectly in Pell's Gate too, so double thanks!

Added another balcony to the same link, this time a vanilla balcony ripped off Skingrad's MiddleHouse04. Enjoy!
